You will get much conflictin abvise here, swirl flaps, timing chains, who knows what else, but bottom line is you should have 2 year warranty from bmw dealer and that is very reassure ing so haggle on price and dont worry about problems bmw build great cars

Yes they are. One is leather, one is cloth.

In one shot the car has manual air conditioning and in the other it has full climate control.

20k seems like big money for the car. Have you looked at similar used cars on bmw.co.uk ? The vrt wouldn't be much.

what ? are you suggesting it's ok to throw up any old pictures when advertising a car ?

Ya I noticed those pics as well but its nice clean finish and nice alloys, low mileage. Like the fact that there is 2 yr warranty too. Any other comments on it lads? If I was to get it for 18k..decent price??

I see what you are saying now, 2 differnt cars, but I suppose the person doing the phots just mixed them , no big deal the op knows which car he is buying and just wants some general abvise, not the 2 seats are differnt in the pics etc

You could land this 2008, 320D msport with leather for 17k. The 320D is great to drive with a good bit more power than the 318

Food for thought there ,looks like a lovely car but you have travel costs etc to consider

With the issues those cars have engine wise, I'd be happy to pay more for a dealer peace of mind especially when large figures are being jostled around. The 2 year warranty would be something I'd insist on anyway OP other than that it looks good.

Ya thats what I was thinking too..happy to pay a slight premium to have the 2 yr guarantee on it just in case!

That is very strong money for a basic M Sport with the only optional extras being the 18" MV3 alloy wheels even factoring in the cost of the two year BMW warranty. The same dealer has an Edition M Sport (same as mine) for similar money and worth looking at:

    http://www.driving.ie/used-cars/BMW/3-Series/320d-Edition/36513685941234790/

That is better equipped with the iDrive Multi Media system including Sat NAV, Dakota leather seats, etc.

The 318d has 143bhp which while it will not win any drag races can hold it's own on Irish roads. I had mine remapped 2 years ago and it is now pushing out similar figures to a standard 320d though if I had the BMW warranty I would probably wait for it to expire before getting it remapped.
These engines are very frugal and I'm constantly getting over 50mpg on mixed driving from it.

Yeah I also own a 320d m sport edition, so much better than a standard m sport interior wise and also I love the carbon black that isn't available on standard m sport. I would consider buying a northern reg car and paying vrt. My 2008 320d m sport edition cost me €16000 after vrt and nct. Also has used car warranty which carries over to southern garages.. I also didn't haggle as much as I should have because I was so eager to buy it!..

I had a look at that 320d.and wasn't to keen on the brown leather tbh..I know it has a few more extras but kinda like the silver and while not leather interior it is very nice. also the 320 has run flats which I'm not to keeen on!

Ours is the 2007 pre lci model but remapped. It is drives 99% city commute with the odd motorway trip here and there.

Long term average according to the OBC is 38mpg. But on a long trip it easily jumps to late 40's and 50 as I reset it driving to galway once.

Leather is a personal choice but I would not let the run flats put you off. The silver one had run flats originally but the previous owner probably replaced them with normal tyres which you can do the exact same with the other one when the time came to change them. Most owners change to conventional tyres anyway.

If you are buying the silver one then check the boot, I bet all that is in there is a can of tyre weld as there is no room for a spare wheel. I would try and broker a deal with the dealer to either supply a spare wheel kit (which BMW dealers supply) with the car as part of the sale or at least give you a decent discount off the price of one. They cost about €300 from a dealer. The spare wheel kit includes a space saver tyre, wheel brace and jack but you will need to store it in the boot.
