This is on Boxnation right now and it's really warming into a good fight.
Jones probably took the first, Leb the second, but good exchanges.

A lot better than the WBA HW title fight earlier. That's a nasty eye injury that Lebedev has.

    Really interesting now.
Leb prob still ahead, but his right eye is a mess and although he's landing more, Jones is showing a great chin and finishes each round strongly.

Jones took that rd. Landing some wicked body shots.

Jesus, how does Jones not even blink from some of those bombs?
He is beginning to slow though. Age is catching up with him.
    Great action though.

Cracking action. Jones must have a head made of concrete.

    Jesus! Thoroughly deserved.

Superb fight, but seriously, has anyone in Lebedev's camp got any compassion? There was no need to keep sending him out with an injury like that. That damage could be the end of his career, or worse!

Unbelievable. Jones just kept coming and poor Lebedev's face was grotesque.

Have to say, for a long time Jones intrigued me. He was a LIGHT-MIDDLE champ, then very quickly moves all the way to cruiserweight and even heavy and competes very comfortably there, taking huge punches effortlessly. He's just so hard to beat.

    Great fight though.

Well, in their defence, he was winning the fight (at least on my card) and was landing loads of heavy punches and wasn't being badly hurt himself. He just couldn't finish Jones off.

I thought he was winning as well, but a boxer's safety should be paramount. It was a blatant grotesque injury that was worsening because Lebedev couldn't protect it. Boxers need protecting from their own heart and desire. Between the ref, his camp and the doctor, none of them showed that man any compassion. They really risked his life in there.

BTW, I disagree that Denis wasn't being hurt. He was. Rocky and on his heels several times from shots he couldn't see.

Missed this but I hear Kostya Tszyu disgraced himself in the corner?

Didn't see the fight but if his eye was like the above for a few rounds thats pretty shocking

Allowing the fight to continue or what?

Yeah, I haven't watched it yet but a lot of people saying the corner should have stopped it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Just watched it. Pretty disgusting. Injury was grotesque and Lebedev was forced to take matters into his own hands and end it. Uncomfortable viewing by the end.

Apparently Jones refused to take the post-fight drug test.

    Lebedev's eye:

WHAT THE **** WERE THE REFEREE, RINGSIDE DOCTOR AND COACH THINKING

    Boxing does not need this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

This stuff with Jones and the drug test is crazy. How can a guy just refuse to take a drug test? Guaranteed this is King's doing. Lebedev might never see out of that eye again and Jones could yet turn out to have been doping.

How in the name of god are you allowed refuse to take a drug test WTF is the point of having a drug test if your not made take it disgraceful fight should have been stopped Jones is a disgrace for not taking the drug test while the ref and doctor should be banned for neglagence

Mendoza claimed late last night that the WBA's man in Moscow said the test had been taken. Don't know which story is true.

What was Christodoulou doing last night? Was it the 10th round when he finally got someone (was it even a doctor?) to look at Lebedev's eye? There must have been 2 inches of swelling on the side of his head at that stage.

The eye was pretty bad in the early rds. How the hell so many people allowed the bout to continue is beyond me. It's a disgrace. Lebedev could have lost his life in there. He must have fought 4-5 rds with one eye. That is a hell of a lot of time when a man is hitting you The ref showed Lebedev to the doctor at rd 9 or 10, and the doctor allowed it continue. That needs serious looking into. I think the crowd and the hometown must have had some impact. It's not an excuse. No way. Bottom line: Lebedev out of pure desperation and pain had to quit. That is how bad those around him let it go.

Jesus thats shocking. It should have been stopped after the 6th round.

God Lebedev has some balls to keep going but that could be the last time he enters the ring.

Can the doctor stop the fight without the referee calling him to one of the fighters corners?
Reason I ask is in this case should the doctor have gone on his own dues and said enough is enough Lebedev can't see out of the eye fight over?

Jones has failed a pre-fight drug test. Fight is off as things stand.
