hi folks could anyone recommend a decent car (petrol)for 8-10k? looking to replace my 1.8 2005 mondeo later in the year, engine size doesn't need to be a big as its only for work commute not enough mileage to warrant a diesel..

    thanks in advance,

How about a 2.0L Honda Accord vtec ?

    Prius

    BMW 320I 530I ?

loads of cars you can choose, GTi Golf ?

are you after economy, power etc ? road tax an issue ?

not that bothered about power per se- its only for work commute, so a car thats cheap to run without being a complete banger would be nice..maybe not a ford again though..

nice looking car but I'm trying to reduce my costs-the tax alone on a 2 l petrol car would be too rich for my blood..

Prius is a great commuter car, cheap to run and maintain, very reliable. But not the Prius maybe a 1.4 T-Jet Fiat Bravo ? good car and good engine ?

    Golf 1.4 TSI.

Awe do you not like me saying Prius ? You can talk to someone you know, if it effects you that much, same for anyone else that have issues with me mentioning it.

I bought a 2010 1.2 VW polo in Belfast about a month ago, cost £8k stg, got it cleared & taxed for 12m for less that €10k, great on fuel & looks good too.

I think this may be one of the rare cases where your recommendation of a Prius might be spot on :pac:

Why not a brand new Dacia Sandero :)
Trouble free car, cheap to run with 3 year warranty

Eeek... why settle for a 06-08 Ford focus when the buyers budget will stretch to a 2008 Mazda 6 or surely to a 2009 Honda Civic (with a small bit of clever haggling) as posted by bazz26.

You serious? £8,000 is circa €9,400 at todays rate. You cleared it and taxed it for €600 odd quid or maybe less? Hats off to you if you did:cool:

Those Civics are a great car. I had a 1.8 and it gave over 40mpg. Roomy too, not much smaller than the previous Accord.

    Scarce enough though....
