Advice needed - used car warranty

About 6 weeks ago, a car clueless friend of mine living in Dublin bought a 2004 Ford Focus, 69k miles, 2 owners, 5door, 1.4l for €3900 cash from a car trader (not a main dealer but has a yard of cars) from a town in West Limerick. Now, this friend is the softest, most decent and honest 40+ year old man that you will ever meet. Anyway he was given a 3 month warranty mainly he thinks covering the engine and gearbox.
The car dealer named his price and that is what my friend paid in full - no haggle at all.

This naive friend of mine noticed a few problems since then -
Hard to get into gear when cold. Blower motor. Water leak from rear squirter.
So, this week he brings it to a Ford main dealer to check it out. They say the clutch plate is worn, blower motor and fuse need replacing and water pipe needs fixing to rear washer and will cost €1400 to fix - yes you read that right.

He rang the trader\seller who sold the car and was told to drop it back which my friend did today. The trader\seller gets back later and quotes €350 to fix the problems.
Now I believe that these issues should be fixed free of charge under warranty.
Is there any case here for a warranty claim? Should the small claims court be mentioned to the trader\seller.

I'm open to correct but I would imagine a clutch plate is considered a wear and tear item and may not be covered under warranty. Did he ask the dealer about what was covered under the warranty?

On a side note your friend really got fleeced paying €3900 for a 9 year old Focus.

Im guessing warranty is word of mouth.
Its all up hill from here if dealer is not honest.

Usually them 3 month engine and gearboxes only cover major mechanical components and wear and tear items like clutch are excluded. Sadly the other items in many cases are not major engine or gearbox components and thus not in the remit of his warranty. However a decent salesman should cover such things, might mean another sale for him in the future.

    Just an update:
Well he paid over another €350 to the seller to get the problems rectified - not something I would have done, but each to their own.
My mate is just too soft and too trusting.

He's definitely a sucker for punishment and soft in the head IMO.
