I've started trialing this piece of System Monitoring software of late and was just wondering if anybody here has any experience with it, has any tips or tricks worth checking out as there's a lack of information on it via youtube and usual google searches.

It's a very handy overall tool - good from the point of view of inventory but also general troubleshooting - you can see what software is installed across the network and run reports on hardware/software etc. so just wondering if anybody else has used it before?

    Try spiceworks, tis free.

Have put it into a couple of sites. It is very good. Data is all kept onsite (unlike spiceworks). Just make sure to set up a group policy to allow the required ports through the firewall and you will be good to go. The inbuilt reports are very comprehensive and you can create your own if needs be. The pro version is well worth the extra cost.

    Cheers,

I've it installed on a VM with the ports configured by the guy who handles the firewall so it's working well thus far.

One thing I need to implement is that the description of all laptops and PCs is equal to the owner of the machine. If you search for a name it brings back the AD information on that user - sometimes it will show you the last PCs they've logged into but that might not necessarily be their machine. Need to push out a script to change the descriptions because editing this allows it to show up in searches but there's a long task to do manually!

Any other tips on using it or mods you can make?
