World Youths are on 10-14 July
    EYOF is on 14-19 July
Youths are U18 (born 1996 or later).
The standards for the World Youths are much harder than the EYOF

I have a few queries on this, maybe someone can enlighten me.

Why have these events been scheduled to almost overlap, given that in theory same athletes can qualify for both?

AAI are only sending U16/U17's to the EYOF even though there could be U18's who have not met the world youth standard but have better marks than the U17. Why was this decision made? Surely we should be sending our best qualified athletes?
    Anybody any insight/theories?
The OCI has restricted the EYOF team to 14. More than 14 have already attained the qualification standard (there are no A and B standards) and more probably will over the next couple of weeks so we will have a situation where 15/16 year olds reach a qualification standard for a major international event and won't be going. Is this limit imposed by the OCI a cost based decision or are all teams restricted to 14. Can't see an answer to that anywhere. The competition is in Utrecht so the cost should be pretty low.

Thanks, that answers that one. I always thought a youth was U18.

    Only one athlete per event
Relay teams are made up of athletes who have qualified in other events
Birth year 1996 have missed out this year due to a realignment of the ages competing

Any word on the EYOF team selection? I think the cutoff for achieving the standards was last weekend.

Cutoff was last weekend 2nd June. Nominations to OCI were due this week. According to our friends on arcurankings.com, 23 athletes have reached the standard. Only 14 will be selected so some tough decisions required.

Age group for Eyof changed last year. It brings the athletics comp of eyof in line with age groups of some of the other competitions at Eyof- gymnastics, tennis etc.. Despite the change in age group Aai did not form a panel of eyof potentials and provide them with exposure to comp/training camps etc. in 2010 the 2011 potentials had access to a number of comps abroad and a number of training camps.
Oci are bringing a team of 14. 14 travelled in 2011 and the team won 6 medals, broke a number of records an were the most successful Irish athletics team ever at the event. Despite this and anecdotal evidence pointing towards a bigger athletics team there is still only 14 travelling.
Relay teams to best of my knowledge do not have to be composed of qualified athletes..
This eyof team is stacked with potential and has a great chance to do well. Some European countries are not sending teams notably Germany and the uk.
