As ye know lads I was trying during the week to put something in place to try and fill the void in the racing calender. We were waiting for the ok from the other provinces. All thats now in place and we more or less have all in place now to go ahead with this new event now on Sun June 2nd the ''Boyne G P''.The race will be in Slane village, with the sign on in Kellys pub from 9.30 for an 11am start.Cycling Leinster are backing the event and are doing their bit also to try and fill the gaps.It is planned to run 3 x separate races an A1/A2 race an A3/Jun race and an A4 race. This is the usual suspects all going to be helping out with this one,so if theres anybody that wants to give a hand on the day it would be appreciated,as its the same people we are going back to time after time. Please spread the word out among the riders and clubs.Just wanted to get info out about this today as im on ras duty next week and wont have a lot of time for anything else.So when the ras is done and dusted for another yr we will nail down all the final details in the week before the race. Will try and get route details and distances posted later before we hit the road for the week.Cheers wav

    As usual lenny I always have someting I want you do.Picked out a nice testing 12k circuit out there earlier.Will be 8 x laps for A1/A2 6 x laps for A3/Jun and 5 x laps 5 x laps for the A4s.
This is where you come in lenny.Maybe you could do a spin on the circuit next week and post a map up here in my absence. The race will start at the main gates to the historic Slane Castle. Will continue on the R163 towards Kells. After 0.6km turn left to continue on the R163,At 5km you turn left just after Ryans of the Lough pub on to the L3411.At 7.7km you turn left on to the N51 and continue back to the start at Slane Castle and left again to R163[end of lap].The finish location is TBC.
Again anybody that can drive, steward, etc, get in touch.Already the feedback is positive.Riders just looking to race.

finally managed to get the Boyne GP mapped on ridewithgps (haven't ridden it yet, but there is a nice 4km drag :)) Looks like a deceptiive little course that will sap the legs over a few laps. Should be fun!!

nice course, it'll be a hard race i reckon.

just a heads up and you might know this already but roadwords have just started in the last few days on the N51 on several sections between navan and wiggers cross (the corner at 7.8km on your map). It looks like it will only affect that corner and as it is resurfacing, it may well be finished by next weekend.

They look like nicely surfaced roads. Might attend, depends on what state I'm in after Duane Delaney on Saturday.

Looks like its gonna be a great day racing, met a few lads on Sunday who were over the moon it was on so they could get out, fair play for getting something up and off the ground on such short notice.

I had planned to as soon as I heard about it but the OH reminded me I had family commitments down in Wexford, so alas, no. Are you out yourself for it?

You'll be right at home so. There's nothing like pre-race chatter for getting the detailed lowdown on various lurgies, disrupted sleeping patterns, 16 hour working days etc etc. You usually find the same plague-ridden insomniac workaholics collecting the pots a couple of hours later.

Edit - I'll be there too, whingeing with the best of them!

And you will will be one of them no doubt,i will be taking the start despite my week of intensive training of fries and guinness on the ras last week

Please note.Due to parking problems etc and not wanting to fall out with traders etc in Slane,we have moved the sign on venue to Ryans of Gormalough public house which is 6km from Slane on the R163 [Kells Rd].This venue is actually on the circuit and we now will start and finish out that area now also. The circuits, distances, etc all remain the same. The owner of the pub has made a field available to us for parking so it looks better all round. Please spread the word and get on to your club websites or facebooks or whatever. Thanks in advance.

Just wondering if you think you'll have any problems running 4 races on a 12km circuit at the same time . Will be very tight , you could have a coming together of different races .

Yes it will be tight. The woman will probably get lapped but theres no problems there as they just let the A1/A2 race pass.I think [hope] there will be no problems with the other 3 races.Look its the most suitable circuit we could put together in a hurry.and it will be fine. Its a tough, testing, little lap.

testing is one way to describe it.... :)

went for a spin out that way earlier. The road works look like they should be finished, and even if they are not, they are not too bad and shouldnt cause any problems. The rest of the course is lovely (except for the hills. haha). Its gonna be a tough race, but if the weather is anything like today then it will be absolutely lovely!! Looking forward to it.

edit - strava segment for the lap:

OK folks we're ready to go.Just been out marking the circuit. Please note the new sign on again Ryans Pub on the R163 Kells Rd.out of Slane. The sign on venue is signed from Slane Village and from the N51 Navan/Slane Rd.Four races A1/A2 A3/Jun A4 Woman. The finish line is located 1km from the sign on venue and we will have the presentation there afterwards.Hope to see you all there. At this stage I think we have helpers from about 5 clubs on board.Great to see committment like this on a bank holiday weekend.Remember we are relying on the support of the riders for this one,and if it goes well we'll pencil it in again going forward. Its a really great circuit and the roads are in great nick. All roadworks complete.See ya tomorrow.

Pulled up on the second lap with what turned out to be a phantom puncture.
Tried to get back on but it was a lost cause.

    Still a good morning out.

Nice route and very well organised. Cheers Wav and everyone who organised it.

Great race, really well organised, good circuit. I have now graduated from being dropped to being packfill, onwards and upwards! 60km easy enough sitting in the bunch, didn't contest the gallop, fellow Swords lad got 4th.

Thanks to Wav, the volunteers and everyone involved.

Anyone find a small leather case with some CO2, Levers and my CI Licence?

Had it when I was packing the car in the field by the pub but it's vanished.

I was parked very near the gate?

Thanks wav1 and everyone else for getting this race set up on such short notice! It turns out that "third time lucky" is true, this was my third A4 race and first where I managed to score a few points. Was shocked by that given I haven't been on the bike (besides commuting) in 6 weeks due to exams. Was a cracker of a day too, couldn't say anything bad about the roads or weather!

For that race, it was top 8 places (8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). This varies based on the distance of a race, see page 22 of link
