I'm not optimistic at all here, but I'd love to get my hands on some Mosi lager (Zambian) or Windhoek (Namibian). Has anyone ever seen either of these on sale anywhere or will I just have to go back to Africa?

I think Tusker is about the height of it. The others wouldn't taste the same as they did in Africa anyway. Have a different lager instead.

Only ever seen Windhoek in the north. Sainsbury's I think. Nothing special about imo.

Redmonds Ranelagh and Supervalu Aston Quay have Bell's Lager from Ghana (I think)

Try the South African shop in Dublin, Jabula. Not sure if they are allowed to sell beer and lagers at the moment, but they are moving premises soon and I think they will have a full license then and be allowed to sell it. They should be able to help you with Windhoek, or else Castle, Black Label, Amstel.

Phew. We were running dangerously low on yellow fizzy lagers there.

Ah here - Live and let live!
Summer is allegedly coming - Sometimes a crisp, cold lager on a Friday/Saturday evening really hits the spot.
Now if only you could get Moritz beer in Ireland..........

Couldn't agree more. I've nothing against cold lager. I just don't see the point of having one from Namibia next to one from Thailand next to one from Poland next to two from England which pretend to be Japanese and Brazilian, when they all taste pretty much the same.

You can get beer that tastes almost identical to Moritz in Ireland. But no importer can bring in your experience of drinking it in Barcelona, which I suspect is what you'd really like.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but that's the wonder of (non-crony) capitalism - giving people the greatest choice at the best possible price.
People are always deciding for themselves what they want, because it seems to me - people's taste's are different.

Again, not trying to be smart but can you provide the name(s) of these beers?

    Cheers

But that's the thing, it's not choice if they're all pretty much the same. If the hardware shop offered nails from China and identical nails from Brazil, that's not really a choice. That's the opposite of choice.

From memory, Moritz is pretty light and smooth and quite strong, so something like Augustiner Edelstoff or Spaten Helles would get you in the zone. They're great beers without needing to be compared to anything else.

Identical nails from different countries (presumably with exact identical physical characteristics) is a different proposition entirely to what you perceive to be similar tasting (but different) beers.
You're not comparing like with like there - People's tastes are different

I've had those beers and to my taste Moritz is what Augustiner Edelstoff should be; LIGHTER. Again that's my taste and Moritz is what I would drink over Augustiner or Spaten. Actually Spaten is pretty poor compared to the other two imo.
Ps Moritz also has a slight buttery taste that the Augustiner or Spaten don't have.
IMO Moritz is very different tasting beer to Augustiner Edelstoff or Spaten.

It's not - it's the terror of advanced capitalism. Too much meaningless choice and too little ability to make qualatitive change. People struggle to even conceive of ways of improving society or their lives. :o

Curious that you hold Moritz in such high regard. I spend a lot of time in Spain and, if given a choice between the likes of Estrella Damm and Moritz, I would go for Moritz. It has slightly paler colour than the standard cooler-lagers you tend to get in Spain and is ever so slightly hoppier, perhaps with a little of the buttery/creamy character you mention.

But it's a totally average beer despite this.

The beer of Barcelona, brewed in Aragón.

Not quite; The beer sold in Fabrica Moritz in Barcelona is brewed on site.

This may be true but the main brewing operation takes place in Zaragoza, under license. The brewery is La Zaragozana.

At the risk of running off-topic I disagree; To name but a few; 3D printing, Nano-tech and Biotech would seem to be contrary evidence to what you claim there.

True, the point I was making is that it ain't all brewed in Zaragoza.

I only hinted that it might be available soon. I didn't comment on its quality-

I was in there yesterday and the lady said they hope to move to a more suitable premises "sometime this summer" (they are currently located just off Capel st).

They would like to stock beers but have had five license applications turned down!.

And yes if they get a beer license for the new premises they will stock Windhoek!
