I have put UCC with Commerce International with Chinese on my CAO Application, and I would like to know good and bad site about this place.

I checked few topics already but I prefer to make my own one with nice and simple answers.

So, how is the actual life in the campus? Is the nightlife and lecturers any good? Is there a support available in case you are struggling?
Also what is bad about this college?

Tell me about your opinions and experiences. Thanks!
And please do not off-top too much... :)

Night life tends to be relatively good even though I don't have time these days to go out a lot. Plus there's plenty of events with societies and clubs going on all the time. One of the major advantages of the campus is that it's close to the city.

Lecturers will vary, some you will find are fantastic while others may be awful to deal with. But I think this is applicable to pretty much every university in the world. :pac: If you're struggling in your course, you'll have class reps that you can contact or even the lecturer of the module. If it's a greater issue, there's counselling facilities available on campus that are supposed to be pretty good.

There's probably plenty of awful aspects to the university but I really can't think of any off hand. Also since you'll be studying Chinese, there's a Chinese Society on campus so they would probably be helpful if you're having issues with the language side of things, it's worth being aware that they exist especially since it looks to be a rather challenging language.

Thanks for answer! The chinese society would be pretty useful in my opinion. It would help me get the better understanding of the language.

    Any more thoughts? :)

Pros - Good atmosphere. Very good night life. Lots of clubs and societies. Lots of good people.

Cons - Getting a computer in the library, some people are not the nicest.

Let's be realistic, where else would ya go? Dublin and Limerick may have good colleges but they are in **** holes, go to Cork.

UCC is good, but like everything it is what you make it... Get involved and enjoy it and it'll be great. There's plenty going on and the nightlife is good.

I wouldn't go that far and call them sh*tholes.. The only course I am looking for in UCC is that Commerce with Chinese, In case I won't get it I will be going to NUIG :)

Im in Comm international at the minute and to be honest, its a rather good courese. Be prepaired for a huge amount of different subjects coming at you but they're all taught at from a 'no prior knowledge' point. The typical week is only about 14/15 hours of lectures and the majority of lectures reply to emails preety quickly with replies to questions and issues. Also, as far as I know the Chinese lectures, 2 hours a week, are really beginners classes

Do you know anyone who is doing Comm Int. W/ Chinese? I would love to get some impression on it, I couldn't find any interviews or student talks about this course. :( What language are you studying? If you would ever have to pick a course again would you pick something else?

Im doing it with German but we share all the lectures, bar the language modules, with those doing all the other languages (Chinese, Irish, Spanish, French & Irish) so you'd get talking to those doing the different courses. Being honest, Comm & Chinese always seem the tightest knit group in the course. Me, well truthfully the course was my 5th choice but its a stepping stone to what I want and its not the worst either
