Apologies if this is in the wrong place but Outlook crashes on opening for the last few days - it was operating properly before that!

Running Win 8 and online suggestions included looking up the event viewer which I found but cannot make sense of it.

Can anybody help! No emails for the last three days is getting very annoying!

Have you done the basic troubleshooting?

i.e. have you tried to force outlook to run in it's safe mode?

If not, open a run prompt (press the "windows key" + "r") and type in "outlook.exe /safe"

If it runs without any issue, check to see if there are any unusual addons.

Failing that, check your update history to see if there were any Windows Updates applied to office/outlook.

Another option would be to try a repair Outlook from the installer (or via program and features).

    Hi Bob

    Thanks for the reply.

Outlook does the same in safe mode so I can't even get into the add ons to check!

Waiting on disc to do a reinstall and see if that works but I don't want to lose all of my email which is stored in the .pst and archive files.

If I rename the current pst file and do a full uninstall reinstall and then change the pst file back perhaps it might work???

Or would that hold the settings and perhaps the reason for this problem!!

If you copy the .pst file to another location just to be safe, there should be no problems.

It's possible you may be able to do the repair without the disk. If you go to "programs and features" find MS Office on your list, and click "change" it may give you a repair option rather than the usual uninstall / re-install method.

I have been trying to access the repair feature which is only offered on the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector or the MS Office Social Connector but when I click repair it starts the process and then says another installation is currently in progress. Complete this installation before proceeding but there is nothing being installed!

As an update, I have got it working again and the issue appears to have been coming through the IMAP set up I had for gmail and some other accounts. I ended up removing the outlook pst files and when I loaded the programme it came back without crashing.

A solution by default rather by design!!!

But perhaps it may help others!!
