Rear Window Smashed

Just came out of work and walked across to my car only to find that the back window had been smashed.
Called the Gardai (there was nothing taken from the car) and they came and took my details. They told me to ring the station in the morning to get the PULSE I.D number for my insurance. I took pictures of the damage (bad lighting because it's at night) but have a record of everything.
Drove home and covered up the back window incase it rains.
I just have to wait till 8am so I can my insurance company.

I have absolutely no idea about insurance whatsoever, so my question is this: Will my insurance cover this and will this affect my insurance premium in any way?
I have a Full Comprehensive policy with FBD for the last two years and I'm due to renew it again in 3 weeks. I have 2 years no claims. On my Motor Vehicle Imsurance Schedule (got it with my Cert) it says "Excess Applicable €350"... But to be honest I don't even know what that means.
How much does it cost to get a rear window on a 02 Mondeo fixed? Would I be better off paying out of pocket?

    Thanks

As far as I know windscreen cover means all windows not just windscreen. My side window was smashed in a few years ago and it was covered under windscreen just bring to auto glass they sort everything and no effect on no claims as a claim under windscreen cover doesn't count.

    Thanks for the reply.

Will it affect my premium at all? Will I have to pay more this year?

It def didn't count as a claim on mine. It was auto glass told me that windscreen cover means all windows. I think I even had two glass claims the same year as within a few months of the car being broken into I got a new car and I only had it a month when some little scumbags were throwing rocks at cars and smashed the windscreen. I'm pretty sure it was within the same insurance year. No effect on premium. Check that you have windscreen cover and then just call auto glass they do the rest and deal with your insurance directly.

Id check and see if it's in the little print whether your no-claims is affected by a claim for windscreens/window or how many claims you can make before your no-claims bonus is affected.

I would then check & price the cost of having the window fixed without your insurance. You might find its cheaper to pay for it yourself in the long run.

Last claim I made was a drive off on the front of my car -the claim was for over e2,000 worth of damage -lights, bumper, paintwork etc. I can only make one other " free" claim without it affecting my bonus in the next 2 years. ( I think)

All policies are different though & the devil is in the detail.

If you can't work it out Get someone who isn't insured by your company to ring & ask - they record all calls & you may not want to log this.

I know my insurance gives free emergency window replacement but I don't know if mine will then count this against my claims that I am "allowed" before affecting my no claims policy.

I also have some kind of insurance that protects my no claims policy -I really must check the detail -as you can see I'm not sure at all either what I've paid for or should be availing of : 0

Halfords might be able to help you!!!

Don't worry about it. Windscreen (including back window) is fully covered by your FBD comprehensive Policy. When you ring them they will tell you who to bring your car to to have the glass replaced. You go there, they replace the glass, you sign a form and off you go. FBD will pay the windscreen replacement company directly so you are not out of pocket at all. There will be no effect on you no claim bonus and no excess to pay for this type of claim.

Be aware that some companies treat it differently depending on whether it was accidental or deliberate damage.

AONinsure wanted more details about the claim when I was getting a quote, due to my window getting broken for theft purposes instead of accidentally.
(Made no difference to the quote eventually as only the window was covered anyway.)

Same thing happened to me about 3 years ago, parked up car with girlfriend and went for a long walk . Returned to find broken glass on the ground and noticed the rear window(small) on drivers side was smashed and they gained access to the boot to steal my digital camera and the gf's handbag.

Even with car alarm, this happened in daylight hours in a busy public car-park, no CCTV however.

Reported to the nearest Garda station, banner behind the counter said , sure it happens all the time and seemed dis-interested. All I wanted was the Pulse crime reference number for the insurance company. After some calls the Insurance company sent out Carglass / Autoglass mobile van to replace the fly window as it happened on a Sunday.

I asked the guy how much it would be , E120 for call out charge and as it was a week-end ,ie Sunday , they charged back the insurance company.

I had fully comp insurance, did not affect my NCB.

You should get a quote for window for your Ford Mondeo. Price may exclude VAT though.

This is not comparing like with like.A glass claim will have no effect on your NCB.It will be listed as a claim on you NCB cert so you will have to declare it to another insurer if you change companies it would not go against you.

OP ring you insurance company and they will advise you. They usually have a list of approved repairers.Once you have windscreen cover you will be fine.

AFAIK comprehensive cover from FBD includes glass cover - there's no excess if you use a recommended fitter, and your NCB won't be affected.
