I'm looking at buying either a Ford SMax 2 litre diesel or else a VW Touran 1.6 diesel. Has anyone an opinion on which is the better option and any information on running costs would also be really appreciated

Ford S max in a different league in my opinion.
It is a bigger and better car.
We are on our second and really find it hard to fault as an excellent all rounder. I drove all the mpv's when initially buying and it drives and handles much better than any other one. It looks good for a 7 seater too.
We do find it is quick to wear the front tyres as it is a heavy front wheel drive car. Servicing is reasonable and economy is ok not brilliant.
They are expensive to buy in comparison to some other mpv's but seem to hold value reasonably well.
