Failed the Year, What now?

I'm in first year and just finished my exams there today and I'm without a doubt certain that I failed the majority of them.
Was just wondering what happens if i fail more than 2 modules?
Is it just the same as repeating the modules at the start of next year along with Stage 2 modules?
Also what is the cost and does it effect my grant next year?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm fairly desperate to actually be told in plain simple English what happens.
Thanks in advance for any help given

You can fail at most 3 modules and compensate them (provided you get above 30%, i.e an E and have a GPA of over 2.0). If you get an F (under 30%) you will have to pay a 230 euro repeat fee and either resit the final exam or repeat the full module.

So if you fail 2 modules and get an E in both and your GPA is above 2 you'll compensate them. If you get an F or below you'll have to pay to repeat.

I don't know how this affects the grant, sorry.

If you fail the majority of 1st year, I think you need to ask yourself the question are you wasting your time and presumably parents money, hanging around and repeating half the subjects from the year?

As far as I'm aware you can fail up to 3 modules in stage 1 and still progress to stage two and make up the credits next year (so you'll have to repeat / take a new level 1 module for each of them). If you haven't passed enough, you'll have to repeat the year.

Often it has nothing to do with intelligence (presumably you're reasonably intelligent to be in UCD in the first place), but pure laziness.

Did you fail because you just weren't interested in the course? Just didn't bother to study? Or was it genuinely something very difficult that you weren't able to manage?

Regardless of the answer, you must ask is the subject right for you, is college right for you at this stage in your life?

If you're going to limp through college and get a pass degree or something, your time might be better spent getting an entry level job and building up some experience for a career and going back to college when you're ready.

Sorry, don't mean to lecture, just think you might need a swift kick up the arse - trying to help, I promise.

I could do with taking my own advice sometimes too, trust me - I've an exam in an hour and a half and I'm sitting on boards because I'm fed up with exams and just want them to be over!!

What subject are you doing, just interested.

I'm afraid that the grant does not cover repeating a stage.

On the positive side if you are going to fail a year it is far better that you fail first year than second, third or fourth. It doesn't have any bearing iirc on your final degree, and if you do change course you will be hit with fewer fees.

This happened to a friend of mine.
With regard to the grant, I'm pretty sure you won't get it until you advance to stage 2 (i.e. January, assuming you pass your repeats).

I failed Year 1 too many years ago. It was very disappointing but worked out well in the end. While repeating year 1 I was able to get work experience which really stood to me & it helped me get more focused on the course rather than the social side of college. It all depends how YOU are going to react to this
