How to get a weekend job during the academic year?

Hi, I have to move out of home in September to do a full time course for 1 year. The thing is I depend on been able to get a 1 day a week job (Saturday or Sunday) for income but I'm not fully sure how to go about it.

Do I approach possible employers a month or 2 before I move there by calling in or sending CV's/emails to them or is this far too early?

What kind of businesses will usually employ someone 1 day a week so I know who to be going after? Any tips would be appreciated (no pun intended).

    Thanks.

Basically to look mostly at bar work because it's the most likely place to start with anyway.

Retail, barwork/ waiting tables, convenience stores especially would be my advice. Good luck in the job hunt! :)
