Illness benefit and p21

I just applied for a p21 and when I received it I was quite shocked. I was on illness benefit for the last 2 months of 2012 and two months of this year before I went on maternity leave. When I received the p21 it had my salary and illness benefit separated. I am a civil servant and I give the social welfare cheque straight to my employer and I get paid. I know the rules on illness benefit changed in 2012 but I presumed the amount would have been included in my pay and not taxed separately. I am not able to get my p60 as I am on maternity leave. Is this correct?

    hi,

I copped that a family member was taxed twice on most of the Illness Benefit received. I got it rectified. You need to go here :
    https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/secure/OnlineStatementRequest.aspx

and request a statement of Illness Benefit for 2012. This will take maybe 1 or 2 weeks.

Email your employer if you did not receive a p60 and explain that you need one. if you were employed at year end you should have got one regardless of mat leave.

on the p60 it shows your income eg 50000 and underneath says what illness benefit was included eg 2000 but on your p21 whats happening is maybe its showing income 50000 and illness benfit as 2000 effective taxing it twice.

then you copy and write to revenue explaining you were double taxed.
