I changed a set of tyres this morning, and when I back to home, I found there are two new scratches on my wheels (used to be spotless wheel), and now there are two scratches.

What can I do now? Call the guy where I have the tyres changed?

You're going to have a hard time convincing them that they happened during the change but they would be the first person to contact obviously. You should have inspected the wheels prior to leaving their premises.

Thanks for your reply Muppet. I just noticed that after a car wash. It was covered by dirts and lubricant after tyre changes.

I just called the guy and I will have to go there and let them check the scratches. Let's see.

On a related note is there anyone who can change a tyre without scratching the rim? 9 out of ten times over the years the wheels will have some tell tale scratch.

same thing happened me a few years ago, got home noticed the scratches, went straight back to them and told them, the guy said ok we will give you money off the next time you get tyres, i said no, give me money off the tyres i just paid you for, he did.

I am not really care about wheel scratched, you can see many of the cars has badly scratched wheels, but I am driving really careful on my car and only had one little scratch (knocked on kerb) and the other three are perfect spotless. I am sad because it was caused by someone else and was when changing the tyres.

In my experience it is the small, independent garages that scratch alloys when putting on\off tyres.

I find proper trye places like Phoenix Tyres in Dublin 1 or any of the main BMW dealers do it right and haven't scratched alloys on me so far.

    It is bloody annoying though.

Make sure the machine for putting the tyre on the wheels has rubber fixings as most places have apes who will just use the metal ones and scratch the wheel to bits in a hurry and spend the next two hours waiting on the next customer sitting on their arse

I dread getting tyres changed for this reason.

Did you get the damages on your wheels repaired or just leave as it was?

they marked two of out four, I haven't got a chance to take a decent check on them. I hope that's it no more will be found.

To me, it's a bit of sad those perfect wheels got scratched in this way.

yes. they blamed the machine, not my problem though, mechanics are often rough im my opinion, they probably didnt even cop they had damaged the wheels.i had paid 1000 euro for the tyres and wheels a few years before.

The lesson here is walk around the car with the fitter. If your wheels are unmarked let him know you will be looking for a refurb if they are marked afterwards. That will focus his mind.

    Updates on this:

I went to this garage to do the tyre fitting and alignment is based on google search.

I went to the guy this noon, and I just want to see how he is going to do with the scratches, and he was definitely rude at first, saying that's not possible, as he spends lots of money on his machine and the part contacting the wheel (if I am understanding well of what he said) is actual plastic. and keeps saying that is impossible to damage/scratch the wheel when doing the fitting, and saying he will find the 3rd party/individual mechanic to check and asking me to drive in and take the wheels off and show me on how impossible this was 'happened'. Unfortunately, he's not admit to the scratches. Ok, I am very unhappy with his manner and attitude and leaving his place and I told him that I come here because the reputation you have on the internet (most of review I read is a good few years old) and I am quite disappointing to how the works has been carried out, and I will raised the terrible issues I faced in your place on internet. He threatening me by saying: If you put on the internet, I will burned your car with you in it. So I said 'ok' and get in my car and trying to drive away, the second I locked my door and started engine and reversing the car, he tried to open my passenger door, he then went to my side and start talking to me.

    Guess what's happened next?

    He kissed you passionately?

He said he will take the damaged ones to wheelwizard and get those repaired. But they will need my cars off road for 2 days.

Should I trust him and back to him and let him to do the work? (also he offered that he can take the damaged wheels and give me the replacement, and put back on once repaired)

TBH, he threatened me, I won't trust him to fix my car.
