I want to reorganise my hot press, which is currently a ginormous mess!

    Two adults, two kids.

Lots of different bed sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, bath, beach and hand towels.

It's a basic hot press - deep and not with a lot of shelves - maybe one or two.

Mod Note - Can't see how this is I&D but we will leave it for now.

Sorry Mod - looking for general home tips from those more organised than I.

I assumed this was the place? But if not, please move or advise or whatever you think.

Btw I've googled but suggestions found seem very American / unrealistic.

Pay one of your kids €2 or so to take everything out, fold and put back in neatly. Keeping towels on one shelf, sheets on another etc...
Probably get messy again after a few days but what's €2 a week..

AgathaC thanks for the suggestion but they're two preschoolers and therefore housework / tidiness neutral.

I understand completely, last thing you need is an extra hours housework each week... There's not a lot else that can be done though.
If you really don't want to do it yourself you could offer your hubby some sort of a bribe to do it for you. If he's happy with his reward he might tidy the hot press more often than every week lol :)

I don't mind doing it, but I think I should look for a better method other than present - ie chuck it in and slam the door before it all falls out on top of me!

I'd love hubby to do it!

    If only .....

Is it possible to at least get another shelf or two installed?

A handy tip i read recently which i had never thought to do is when putting away doova cover sets, is to put everything for that set folded neatly into one the pillowcases that goes with the set. Stops having to rumage around finding the pillow case or matching sheet.

I suggest you ask your husband to give you more shelves if there is space for it.
Seeing it is a rather deep space, I would work with a few plastic transparent container/boxes or wicker baskets (labeled) that you can put in the front. When you need something from the back it's easier to slide out the container or basket from the front and reach what you need from the back without messing up all your linen.

For my bedlinen, I fold my duvet covers (after ironing) and sandwich the pillow cases and fitted sheet neatly in between.
Spare fitted sheets I roll, spare pillow cases I put in baskets.

You can roll towels also and stack them per size.
