It's just another term for a centrefire rifle.
I hope the idiot is found and brought to justice.

Read it on another site and they quoted the farmer as saying it was a trained marksman using a "high powered centre fire"

Someone with a gun they shouldnt have maybe? "Borrowed" from daddys safe?

I was wondering what kind of individual would do something like this myself. Here's a link to the story I saw for anyone who hasn't read it:

I think everyone involved in any aspect of Hunting/Shooting will agree and hope that whoever did this gets caught and that they are made an example of.

Yes it's a bid odd associating such a horrific crime with hunting but I think the OP was referring to the fact that the culprit is thought to be a trained marksman.

Are the Guards sure it was a rifle calibre and nothing else? Could have been done for any manner of reasons, personal reasons against the farmer etc but thats none of our business. If it was a legally held firearm, whatever the reasons for doing it I hope the person is caught soon and appropriate action is taken. There was a few lads seen shooting lambs in my area in recent weeks I can only imagine it was for food. Unfortunately they werent caught yet.

Doesn't have to be a trained marksman, wouldn't be that hard to hit a sheep in the heart or lungs and could have been at a fairly close range to the sheep,i would say this was some little bollox who took their da's gun and went up with their mates for some target practice, no body that hunts or shoots could be that stupid to risk everything by shooting sheep.

    Done.

Contemplated closing it immediately. Left it go in-case members of the wider boards.ie forum stumbled in. They would see that the hunting community here are more outraged and disgusted by acts like this than your average person may be.
