Just asking because I took the wife's car in to be tested last week & watched the whole test from start to finish

Tester opened the boot, looked in to empty boot, closed boot. He didn't reach in to remove the cover above the spare so didn't see the spare or indeed the condition of the one that was there, just wondering

Well -they tell you if you pass or fail. Did she pass without a tyre?

    No you don't

Go way, why do they ask for the boot to be empty then?

If it's there it'll be tested for secure anchorage to the car and if it's not it's not tested....

    Open to corrections :)

They need the boot empty because they check to see if a spare wheel is present. While a spare wheel isn't a requirement for the NCT if a spare wheel is present they will check it's condition.

He opened the boot, looked in & closed boot, took about 1 second, the only thing he confirmed was that the boot was able to open & close, he did not check to see if there was a spare present there or the condition of it

Some testers do check so I guess your tester didn't.

If that's true, it p1sses me off a little, either have a test with procedures that are followed or don't bother, you can't have a compulsory national car test where the testers have discretion, can you?

BTW, I'm in favour of the test in general

spare wheel doesn't have to be there at all. spare wheel is only checked for security if its attached to the underneath of the car. we check the boot to see that the are no panels damaged which would indicate a bad repair on a crashed car, and also to make sure that the boot door is secured properly to the car. those are the main ones anyway.
also, we don't check if the car is insured so please stop showing me your insurance, grrrrrr, rant over :)

Whats to be pissed about, as said above only reason they look is to see if there actually is a spare (can be done in 1 second if boot is clear)

If it's not there there is nothing to test (But people that don't +thank when they have questions answered well...)

    :p

Lots of cars these days don't have spare, or a space to carry them.

NCT tester is a quicker typer than me so didn't see his post :), Unless my tester has x-ray vision, he 1. Didn't know if a spare was present or not or 2. If one was present whether it was secured or not or the condition it was in. I could have had the remains of Lord Lucan in there and he wouldn't have spotted it

Didn't have you down as a thanks whore but I'll give you one anyway :P

Actually just watched the video you posted, they never checked the fuel cap either, might demand a full retest :)
