There is an organisation called Animal Education Outreach ANIMAL EDUCATION OUTREACH - Home They from what i can see, "Animal Rights Advocates" with a number of well known (in the AR circles) individuals invovled or leading the group. The aim of the project is to give school talks to pre, primary, and secondary school kids, about animal rights. They are not in anyway secretive about it, and the site looks quite professional from the perspective of content etc.

As mentioned, they have given talks to schools, at varying different levels, and some of them have been published on line. The links to some of the material are enclosed below, which include a powerpoint presentation, and an audio recording of the session. Kudos to the organisation for at least being open about both of these.

The links to the sessions are Dublin's Vegan Animal Rights Bulletin: Dublin Animal Rights School Talk, Jan 2013

I would encourage people to have a look and a listen (although the audio recording is quite long at 1 hr 16 minutes), to get their own opinion.

NOTE, Mink farming is discussed, but it is not the main thrust of the debate!

The above presentation ws given to a grooup of transition year students in a dublin school, just to give an indication of age etc, but they have different programmes for different age groups.

The audio is as I said quite, long, but just to give an indication of some of the stuff that was said:-

“Animal holocaust, not very accurate, because Nazis were trying to eradicate jews and other groups, such as jews, gypsies, homosexuals, AND THOSE THEY REGARDED AS INFERIOR.. With animals we do not want to eradicate them, we breed them to exploit them, so thats where the animal holocaust comparison falls down a little bit”

Problem for veganism is not nutrition, and not health. Veganism is one of the most healthy diets you can have

Youtube home project, watch it, it is about the environment and our impact on the world.
In the home project they say that our planet has got 10 years left, that means that your not going to get to be parents probably

It means the children now being born are not going to get the chance to be parents unless we do something about it.

Stealing milk from baby cows, Kill them at birth or put them into veal units.

Most people that care about animals are vegan or vegetarian.
People feel strongly about abortion, and not about animals

I went vegetarian first because I didn’t know about the dairy industry and the cruelty involved in that.

Soya milk, tastes better than the milk that causes problems, and diseases.
Most athletes now turning to a plant based diet.
Milk is the cause of a lot of diseases in modern society, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, exzema, I drank a lot of milk when I was young and suffer from exzema.

I would suggest people also look at the powerpoint presenttion which was given to the schoolkids, who wrote and presented it, and perhaps google the individual himself.

    No need to look
Just from the bold section above I can tell that they're just cranks.

They come and they go, but their message is always the same. They are the only people who care for animals, farmers are just mean spirited crazies who " steal milk from baby calves".

I would agree they re cranks, but the individuals concerned are not ones that have just come, and are not going anywwhere.

One individual is a professor at UCD (Roger Yates), and another is a well known AR activist. These presentations are being given to schools across the country, probably different slants for different ages, but this stuff is being delivered to kids, in irish schools and education facilities.

In my view, Cranks yes, come and go, no!

Any school that lets a presentation like that be given is off their rocker. From the extracts that you have posted its full of misinformaiton and distortation of facts and erroneous comparissons and not likely to give a very balanced view of farming or animal husbandry. By and large farmers are very compassionate and caring for their animals and as far as I am aware there is no undisputed evidence to support some of the claims that veganismis one of the most healthy diets, and that the planet has 10 years left. For Gods sake there is 50 years proven reserves of oil left and we were told in the 70's that oil would be gone in 15 years. The environment and nature has a canny way of readjusting itself to changes and can adapt much quicker than the human race, so they are most probably a group of crank heads alright trying to scaremonger people. Also note that any campaign no matter what has to be funded, and its usually be some vested interest, there are very few that will give large funding out of pure genunine concern whether that concern is well founded or not.

I tried to keep everything in context, and I think I have. In find it difficult to beleive myself that this was allowed, especially when you consider the message it gives.

It does seem to have been a relatively successfully venture for them though, I am aware of a fb page set up by the students which now has a horribly familiar animal liberation tint to it, including posters saying things such as 'only assholes would eat a lamb' overlaid onto a picture of a young lamb. The fb page also has friends which are very high profile animal rights activists on it, one of whom has a serious criminal conviction from the uk.

Roger Yates is an interesting character, check out his wiki page and do some googling
