    Hi All ,
My self and my partner are heading for Jamaica in July. We are flying into Kingston for 4 nights. We have no accommodation booked yet and are wondering if we are better off heading out of Kingston
Has anyone had any experience of Jamaica and its resorts ? . I have read up a good bit about it and it just seems to deter anyone from travelling there. .

looking for some personal insite and recommadations

    thanks :)

Haven't been there myself but your own research tallies with what I've been told by friends who have been there

It has a lot of poverty,
Kingston is unsafe, give it a wide berth, a lot of tourists tend to stay in compounds and only venture out on organised trips, not my idea of a holiday so that would put me off

Were flying into Kingston , at this stage now I think we will be avoiding it , but were only there a few nights so we don't want to spend half a day travelling so was looking for some help/advise on that .
    thanks

Well you are looking at between probably two and a half to three and a half hours transfer time to Ocho Rios or Montego Bay where most of the tourists tend to head to, not too bad
If I were you, I'd book a private transfer from/to airport

Ya its seems to be get out of Kingston is the tale everywhere. Montego Bay is a fair old trip from Kingston. I suppose a 2 - 3hr trip isnt all that bad i suppose.

I flew to Montego bay and had to travel 70km, it took 90 mins, you're probably talking 3-4 hours to get from Kingston to Montego bay

Check whether an internal flight from Kingston to Montego bay is an option.

Was in Jamaica a few years back, absolutely wonderful holiday. However there is a lot of poverty and crime in the capital (and all over really) so I think you are mad to be considering spending a few nights there, and you haven't even booked any accommodation?
Ocho Rios is lovely and there is lots of places to stay out there - if you book a hotel or resort they can then advise you on getting a transfer from the airport. You could drive yourself I suppose but maybe do a bit of research first!
