Is there a laundrette in Sligo where you can wash your own clothes?

Just wondering if there is laundrette in town where you can wash your own clothes. Have a lot to wash, but hate the thought of someone else doing it!

Nope, looked for one before when i needed it. I used a few where you drop them off and they wash them but was always disappointed and it cost a fortune. Used that place up high street near market yard and they came back dirtier than when i left them in and didn't even smell clean. Its a pity, in america they are all over, and some are like hangout spots, I used to go there and meet my friends at one that had huge machines that would fit 5x a normal load, had big flat screen tvs, vending machines, tea/coffee, and was full of single people, like a nightclub where you had the sound of washers and dryers instead of crappy dance music.

You need to start being really nice to a friend who has a washing machine, or just ask with an offer to pay them a few euro for the electricity used.

I looked into this before and ended up having to go to a drop off one. However since then I noticed the student apartments in Clarion Village have a small self service launderette in the complex. I wonder if you could just drop in and use it when it's quiet...

A walk in laundrette might be a good business oportunity for someone to set up!

Thanks everyone. It's a pity, because I'd say it would do good business.
Where is the clarion village laundry room located in the area? (I am familiar with clarion village) do you need a key to get in?

Just drive right in to the car park, it's right beside the reception area. You don't need a key or anything.

    I can't believe that a town of Sligo's size doesn't have a single laundrette.

    A useful google search . . . maybe >> https://www.google.com/search?q=forum+laundromat+professional+OR+owner+OR+operator&num=50&lr=&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:y

This search found these two forums used by american laundromat owners:

    http://www.planetlaundry.com/forum/

    http://www.coinwash.com/mb/forumdisplay.php?f=11

Note: 'laundromat' is the american word for 'launderette' (often spelled 'laundrette')

In my opinion it would be all about 'energy'; whoever could use the least and/or recover the most would be able to charge the lowest price.

acually the water charges are a huge part of the cost base

I too would love to see a self service laundrette in town. Although Have only had the need for one once or twice when own washing machine broke down, ended up using a friends machine as would hate a stranger handling my smalls.

Even trying to find a place to wash a heavy none dry clean winter jacket/coat is tricky.

Also, it's only very recently (2013) that it has become completely mandatory (in law) for Irish landlords to supply clothes-washing facilities for all their tenants, ancient bedsits included.

    see >> http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/renting_a_home/repairs_maintenance_and_minimum_physical_standards.html

This is bad news for all existing Irish launderettes, never mind a new one.

Although I can still imagine people paying for a high-speed (less than an hour) clothes drying service.
