Where's the Best place to buy a compact camera in New York and are the taxes avoidable ??. Is B&H the best to buy or am I better off buying online. Camera in Question is either a Nikon P7700 or a Canon G15.

    B&H or Adorama are best.

Buying online or in store will be the same price if you are having the item delivered to a NY address.

If you've not been then B&H is worth the trip just to see the sheer size of the store. If you're an electronics fan it's simply phenomenal how it's run. All the items purchased are shipped from warehouse to the pick up point using overhead conveyor belt system!

I bought a Canon Rebel T3 (1100D) refurb in B&H for the equivalent of £250.
The store is AMAZING. I saved over £100 buying there

if you are purchasing in NY and are trying to avoid sales tax in the USA you must get it shipped out of state.

the amount of savings depends on how much you spend and if you are willing to accept that if there are issues it must be sent back to USA, usually people dont realise this until they have avoided customs on returning to Ireland and have unfortunately had a problem with the camera/lens etc.

there is also a requirement to declare it when returning into the country (so you can pay the import tax - plenty of people break the law here)

if you really wanted to get a Canon G15 you might be better off looking on adverts for the secondhand market instead of new.

Why don't you simply sign up with Amazon prime for the 2 month free trial before you go and order it to your hotel with the 2 day free delivery ?
I've done this and it worked great. You can order from the Amazon warehouse too :D
