Which Humax Freesat pvr to buy?

    Hi,

I've decided to ditch Sky and go Freesat and have decided to purchase a Humax box. The one I would particularly like is the Humax Freesat HD+ 1TB with Free Time but I'm a little wary of purchasing it as many of the reviews on Amazon are saying that the box has many glitches/bugs. Does anybody have any experience of this box?

The alternative would be to buy the Humax Foxsat HDR 320, which, from the bit of research I've done, seems to be a more reliable box. But the storage capacity is much less and it doesn't have the nice fancy Free Time epg.

Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.

I own the latter, and ok so its a little dated looking but has NEVER let me down in over 2yrs of use. Not one single failed recording.

Plus, they are going fairly cheap 2nd hand, which is how I bought mine.

Perhaps ask yourself how important it is to have a fancy EPG and a service that you might rarely use? Is it worth the extra money and perhaps software bugs that still exist? Whereas the Foxsat is tried and tested.

Why not get the 1TB Humax Foxsat? Great reliable machine and plenty of storage.

Thanks for the reply. How much did you pay for your box?

Think I got it for £120 delivered. Bought it from AVForums classifieds.

I see them on there for that price fairly regularly.

The original Foxsat HDR is far more flexible than the newer box, with added custom firmware. You can also upgrade the hdd to 1TB yourself, easy job (it must be if I can do it).
Cheaper, more flexible, but no Freetime, choice is yours.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Just slightly off topic, but is there any particular reason as to why the likes of E4 and MORE4 are only available in standard definition on Freesat? And are the HD versions likely to become available in the future?

Sky have a deal to have them exclusively HD. It may change when the contract runs out.

Channel4 hopefully will move all of their services to freesat in the coming years.
There are more and more channels taking the FTA option lately.
