Dark Vengeance painting

Hi, anybody here happen to know if there is a guide out there that lists all the paints needed and how to paint each model in the Warhammer 40,000 Dark Vengeance box?

This is the first time I've done anything like this and don't want to be going back and forth to the shop every time I need a new colour. Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First off, some general tips:

1.Always, ALWAYS thin your paints(Water them down).
2.You only need the TINIEST bit of paint on your brush, unless you're painting large, flat areas(Like a tank).
3.Games Workshop's primer (The spray can) isn't actually primer, it's just spray-on paint. Be very careful with how much you spray on. I'd suggest using Army Painter instead, because then you can choose from more base coats than just black and white, and the spray won't clump on the model as badly.
4. And if you're really new to this, for gods sake go easy on the glue! All you need is a droplet!




As for the colour scheme of your models, you're gonna have to choose what army they're from first.

You got the Dark Angels, so NORMALLY, you'd paint them as Dark Angels, or one of their "successors", which are any of these guys(See where it says "Known Descendants:" in that link? They're the successors):

Now I only say normally, because the whole "wings", the motifs, and general imagery of that army is what the Dark Angels and their successors look like.

You could easily style them after any other chapter(space marine army) that you want to. If that's the case, then you have a huge amount of chapters to choose from:

People usually paint their army based on one of the founding legions though, which would be these guys:

Please note that any legion that has "Excommunicate Traitoris" actually turned evil according to the fluff. So you'd be painting your "good guys" and bad guys by accident, so beware if you don't want that!

You could also just paint them whatever colours you want to, and just make up the fluff(history) of your army by yourself.



On the other hand, you could just convert them all to be the bad guys, which is what the other half of the box set consists of. They mainly consist of the bad legions ("Excommunicate Traitoris" guys), but other loyalist armies have fallen to chaos(become bad) too:

Now, the actual painting part is easy once you get the hang of it, Youtube has a load of guides. The baddies of the box set are called the crimson slaughter by the way:

I myself have an army of Night Lords, and have found Youtube to be very useful for discovering new tricks of the trade.

I think you have enough to keep you busy with everything I've typed out so far, but if you want to learn some advanced stuff, then look up highlighting, shading, water blending and how to magnetise your models.

The White Dwarf at the time of release had a basic painting guide, and specific paints listed. I can dig it out, but I suspect it's now of limited value since GW redid the paints naming system since then.
