    Hi,

I need a new motherboard for my apple mac book. I've been quoted 450 euro by a laptop repair shop.. does anyone know if this is a reasonable price, or should I try and get the official apple people to repair it? any idea how much they charge for that repair?

    thanks.

    Welcome to boards, Purefoy :)

I'm not too familiar with apples but €450 for a motherboard replacement sounds crazy. How much is apple quoting you? Get a few more quotes. What model and age is your laptop?

    Thanks Unkel!

I haven't checked properly with apple because for a consultation it costs about 70 euro.. And I already had it assessed in 2 other laptop repair places who said that it was kaput which cost me about 100 euro in all. Was despairing and then this computer repair place said that it needs a new motherboard and would cost 450. My laptop is from 2010, and would cost me about 1500 now I reckon give or take..

Certain Macbook motherboards aren't cheap at all, plus you have to factor in the installation fee on top of that so you are looking in or around those prices unless you were to source a 2nd hand fully-working motherboard (unlikely)

    That's quite reasonable for a 2010 MacBook.

MacBook motherboards can cost €800 just for parts.

Thanks! for all replies.. just trying to avoid feeling like I'm paying crazy money. And does anyone think it matters if it's not the apple people doing the installation?

It depends on the price difference and how you feel about it.

I've replaced them before and there's nothing Apple can do your local repair guy can't.

You are probably best going to somewhere the specialises in Apple repairs though.

Great, thanks GarIT. I might try to find out how much it would cost to do the repair through the Apple people, then make a decision :)

Contact Apple and see how much a one off repair is.

Apple parts can be ridiculously priced so it may not be a bad price.
