Hi all sorry for all the threads lately. But I need to get a spare key cut for my focus it never came with one. I know I'm in trouble if I loose the current one and its alot cheaper to get one cut when you have a key already. Anyway is there anywhere good to get a key cut and programmed. Autokey in Dublin seem good and as I'd be in dublin on Friday I could get it done. Anyone have any experience with them? Anywhere else I should try? Ill probably just get a basic key cut that will start the engine and unlock the doors manually depending on price.

I got a Merc key from them recently. I was happy enough with the price and the service was quite quick.

I got a quote from them there in autokey and its a great price tbh so I think ill go with them and just get it done. My main dealer is charging more to cosmde a key than autokey is charging to supply cut and code/program a new key

Yep, I had the same issue with a main dealer too. They said they needed to send the key to German to check what the fault was and could only then give me a new key once they knew what was wrong ! They gave me a quote for almost €700. It cost me just under €300 from Autokey, still expensive but it was my only key and i had no choice ! Best of luck and hope it gets sorted..

Autokey quoted me 220 for a spare key on a BMW, Motorpark provided the key for 188 incl VAT. I coded it to the car myself...

If your in Dublin try the Lock Hospital on the South Circular Road, near the back of James' Hospital. Got 2 keys for my Mondeo cut for 40 euro. One I placed the chip myself (The key with the red/blue insert) and the other was a replacement blade for the original electronic key. Both were badly worn
Auto key wanted 230 to do the job.

If your in town, try the locksmith in Stephens Green shopping center (1st Floor I think)

The round type ford keys can be hard to get these days

Well autokey have quoted me 60 euro incl vat for a key cut and coded so it will open the doors manually and start the engine. It's the flat newer type key not like the old round ford ones with the blue piece. A dealer wants 60 plus vat just to code a key I supply or 150 euro to do the same thing autokey are doing. So for my key the fact it needs to be coded I don't think ill get it cheaper than 60. And tbh I'm happy enough to pay 60 I thought it would be more. This key will mainly be used as a spare and will really only get occasional use. Still I want to have one just incase I get stuck and need a spare in the future. Thanks everyone for the help.

60 euro's a good price I'm surprised they're that cheap, plus you're on the road home where they're situated.

I don't think you'll get better than that

    autokey.ie yeah?
I sent a mail to them a few weeks back for a spare key, they replied to say "bring it into the Dublin shop".
I said that I was was in Galway and could they direct me to the cutter they use here, as per www.autokey.ie/car-keys-repairs-galway/

Never heard from them again.. I'm sure they're good but that put me off and since there's plenty of other cutters it wasn't a big deal.

I'm surprised. Because i emailed them this morning and within an hour they emailed me with a price. They said I could call in anytime and they'd do it in 20 mins. Was it just a key you want cut ?

    Nah, transponder and stuff too.
Yup they were fast to mail back to come in to the Dublin shop. But when I mailed back about their shop here in GY they lost interest/forgot/blah.

Since you'll be over there anyway it won't be an issue for you.

I'm bringing my mother to ikea shed wanted to go for ages so I said I'd go with her. Hopefully autokey isn't too far from ikea i think it's on the naas road. I don't have a clue when it comes to Dublin ill have to set up the sat nav. Ill let you know how it works out once its done.

How much is a key from the dealer? I got a master key for my E34 (granted no electronic tat in it atall) for €25 from McKeown's in Kells (no longer does BMW :( ) and had it for me within a day. Absolutely excellent service

Other keys I got cut were multi coded jobs that Timpsons in St Stephens green did for me for €35. This place cut keys for us too and do a mighty fine job but I'd say well out of range.... :o

The dealers want 150 euro to supply cut and code a key. Autokey same key cut and coded 60 euro incl vat. I know I could get a key alot cheaper but it wouldn't be coded so wouldn't start the engine. If I supply the key cut the dealer want 60 plus vat just to code it  so effectively autokey are giving me a free key and cheaper programming if you want to compare them to dealer :D

Same as me, but I got the quote before mentioning Galway...

Just a final update. I got the key today at autokey Dublin :)
I couldn't fault autokey great place. I went in the guy at the counter was nice took my key and said he'd have it done in less than 1/2 an hour. I sat down in the waiting area spotless nice leather chairs etc. he had it done in 15 minutes. Went to the counter to pay the price was 60 euro. So I said to him I seen a discount offer on their website. He said sure he'd give me the offer of 10% off once I liked them on Facebook he had to see me do it at the counter smartphone offer basically. So I got the key for 54 euro cut coded incl vat :)

The key itself is a genuine ford one. Ford written on it and all. I've tried it several times today and it works perfect. I really can't recommend these guys enough. Ill certainly use them again for all my key needs. Thanks to everyone for their advice on this thread much appreciated.
