New seat belts, lifetime warranty?

Have a 2003 Hyundai Accent that failed the NCT because the rear seat belts would not retract back properly.

Having a nose around the internet, I'm reading that seat belts should have a lifetime warranty and can be replaced by the dealer for free? I'm not sure if this is a load of codswallop or not but want to find out before I ring the dealer looking stupid!

    Any thoughts?

Certainly worth looking into, sounds plausible.

Badly retracting seatbelts is quite easy to fix diy (depending on issue of course).
Did you try the silicone spray method?

would be interested in knowing this myself, the brother has an old corolla with a torn seatbelt and the nct lad failed him on it

For a torn belt you need a new one, for the other pulling the belt out fully and spraying the retraction mechanism with lubricant often sorts it out.

A quick google only mentions Honda and lifetime warranty.

Anybody got any idea's on how to get in at the retracting mechanism?

Get silicone spray from Aldi/Lidl/Halfords and pull belt out as far as possible.
Spray into the opening in the B-pillar where the belt disappears.
Keep spraying and pulling belt back and forth.
This will rub off the silicone onto the retractor.

Once belt is fine, wipe off any silicone excess from the belt.
    Cost <5 euro.

If this doesn't work, move on to more advanced diy.

Its unlikely that a life time warranty on seat belts would be the case. they are a moving part, therefor can wear.

Its true they are a critical safety item, but so are airbags and brakes and no-one would expect those replaced for free if they went faulty or wore out after 10 years.

I'm hoping for a letter from BMW offering just that :pac:

I have definitely read about Honda having a lifetime warranty on seatbelts (never had to test it so I dont know how it works in reality) but I dont know if its true of any other manufacturer.
