What's the best alternative to Sky?

I've had Sky and it just isn't worth it for the amount of channels I watch.

I should add I just want sky sports and nothing else, but you're forced to choose an entertainment package.

Freeview in the UK has at least one sky sports channel

Not located in Dublin or anywhere with upc sadly

Freeview has NO paid for sport. Its called Freeview for a reason.

SKY Sports is on SKY and UPC and that's it.

There is no English language alternative to Sky via a satellite platform.
You can get Setanta only (without Sky) but thats about it for now.
Maybe BT/ESPN will offer a product in July but it will not be as extensive.

You could try the Foreign Satellite forum for ideas about what else is out there.
Not much of the Sky Sports content is available FTA in Ireland without a large motorised dish (even then theres a lot less content and it probably wont be in English). You'll likely need some sort of foreign sub.

    Thanks for the suggestion ^

I did check upc again. I'm eligible for the tv package, but not broadband or phone.

Funniest thing is it's more expensive than Sky. How does that work?! So much for a cheaper alternative

If you're going to choose a provider for only pay TV choose Sky. A lot more channels. But agree both are way overpriced.

I think the OP is referring to sports with a Top up tv and freeview stb in the UK.

Top UP TV is only available on UK terrestrial so not much chance of getting it on satellite

If you don't have broadband then can't get sport on one of the internet services. And it's the cost of internet+service vs. other providers.

Hmmm, that's why I didn't mention satellite, I was referring to how the Op mentioned the ability to get sky sports alongside freeview in the UK.

Just mentioning it in case the OP didn't realise that the laws of physics mean that some channels available in the UK aren't available here. ;)

So lets say you lived in an area with a good overspill of freeview signal and you also had an alternative address across the border, would the channels be available to you then if you had a compatable tv or stb? http://www.topuptv.com/ciplus/

If you really want Sport then its Sky all the way unfortunately. If anyone remembers the days of ITV digital in the UK then they will also remember the dirty tricks that Sky got up to. I think they were required by law to sell a few of their sports channels to ITV. Only thing was you could guarantee that when a big event came along that Sky would shift it onto one of the Sports channels that weren't carried on ITV.

If you are a big sports fan then only having a couple of the sports channels will annoy you over time as you miss out on things without a Sky sub.

Interesting one sports channel in the UK is close to the price of broadband here - so look into online ? - Though ESPN is a lot less.

There is a sky sports app. You get all 4 channels for 6 euro a month. None contract. Only seen it last night. You dont need sky for this.

Check out the foreign satellite forum for foreign subs which are much cheaper and should cover your sports needs.
