Interview Feedback

    I'm looking for some opinions...

I recently interviewed with a well-known IT company for a JB role. At the interview, one of the closing questions I asked was obviously when would the interviewee hear of the results; i.e. whether they'd got the job or not.

That was four weeks ago. Yesterday, I tried to call and e-mailed the HR recruiter asking for feedback. Nothing's been forthcoming so far. I know with some companies, especially US companies, the wheels do grind exceedingly slowly, so I've diaried out for another week and will chase up then.

But I'm thinking a four week wait for a JB role is a bit long to be waiting. I don't expect PFO's when applying (In fact I think it's a result if I get one! :D), but I do think it's very poor and very unprofessional not to respond when at the interview stage. It's not the first time this particular company has done this either.

Is this a new trend now? I'd love to hear if this has happened to anyone else.

Yeah I interviewed 5 weeks ago for a multi-national and was told I'd hear within 5 working days. It was the bank holiday weekend that week so I allowed for a slightly longer wait than that.

To date I've heard nowt; nada; nothing :(

I was told there was only 3 people interviewed for the position (including me) so it's not like they had a huge batch of people to respond to.

I'm presuming hearing nothing means unsuccessful, however it would have been nice to be advised of this. I'm thinking (even at this late stage) of contacting HR just to see if there's any feedback from my interview.

What a terribly inconsiderate and unprofessional thing to do.

Is hearing at the end of the interview that "because of the recruitment process, it'll be early next week before you hear" a good thing or bad thing? No mention of "other candidates to interview" at the end thankfully, as that is always a bad sign.

Nope! The recruiter doesn't have to tell you whether there are others or not. I would EXPECT other candidates to be interviewed.

Hearing at the end of the interview 'We'll let you know early next week', I generally take with a pinch of salt. It almost NEVER happens! I wait two weeks then ask for feedback if none given in that time.

Move on, focus on your next interview. It´s not unusual unfortunately but it really isnt worth spending more than a minute thinking about. Focus on the positives, i.e. what can you take away from the interview process to make you more successful in future.

I did an interview last month for a large multinational company. At the end I was told that I'll hear back by the middle of the following week, or Friday at the latest. I was referred by a current employee and I thought the interview went quite well.

The next week passed without any contact but I heard through the employee that referred me that the department head was away for a time so I left it for another week and a half. I sent an email shortly afterwards enquiring if any positions had become available and requesting feedback on my interview. That's about a fortnight ago this week and I've yet to receive and communication at all.

It's quite annoying and somewhat upsetting as I spent quite some time preparing for the interview and felt I did well on the day. Overall I think it's quite rude myself but it seems this is the way business is being conducted now.

Now I do understand it may be that they are taking their time choosing candidates but surely it would only take a moment to send a quick reply to tell me if I'm still being considered?

You misunderstand. :) I know of course that others will be interviewed, but I just mean if they remind you of that at the end of an interview, that ain't a good sign! :pac:

I've done bout 5 interviews since the start of the yr. Most of them got back to me. Only 2 gave me feedback. (one of them I got 2nd interview)

But one thing that really really really pissed me off was an interview that I did just before christmas! It was an interview for a company in my hometown that I had showed alot of interest in. I mean, I had an interview with this company bout 3 years ago. Was unsuccessful. How bad. But I liked the company so much because

    1. meant to be a great company to work for
    2. Only company in my hometown that would have work suitable to what I'm qualified and experienced in
    3. I have friends who work there

So... having being unsuccessful the first time, I got the contact details of the relevent dept head. Started e-mailing him looking for work experience. Told him I would work for free just for the experience that would stand to me. He got back to me stating he has nothing to offer at that moment but invited me in to have a chat with him! Delighted.... went into him and met him! briefly went through my CV and told him what my goals were and that. We shook hands and off I went hoping that I may get a call in the next few weeks or months.

Got no call. Which was grand as he couldn't promise anything.

Just before christmas they advertised positions relevent to me in the local newspaper. I jumped at it.... Applied through the normal way. But e-mailed the dept head asking him to seriously consider me. He replied saying that he has told the hiring managers to look out for me and that they will be in touch.

Their HR rang me and invited me for an interview! Was well delighted BUT tried to manage my expectations. I had high hopes but accepted that nothing is definite. Did the interview. I was happy with how I performed in that I did worse interviews and got called for 2nd round interviews.

So, then I played the waiting game. The following week came and went. No word. I was starting to get anxious as they said they starting date was the monday week. (a week after the interview) I rang up HR to follow up. The girl basically fobbed me off telling me she would get back to me! I sent e-mails which were ignored.

So, bout 2 weeks later when the start date had passed. I went into collect my dole, my dole wasn't there coz the dole office f()cked up. I was never so pissed off in all my life! I had been out of work 3 years (with the exception of a few hrs a week working in a pub and 9 months of exploitation thru the jobbridge)

Not even an acknowledgement, let alone feedback! for a company that I had hoped I made an impression on! How they treated my application, made me hit rock bottom! After getting home after finding out there was no dole for me. I just broke down in front of my parents! I had hoped I might be turning a corner and then to be treated like that! P ricks!

I've had that and got the job. Think it's more to let you know you're not the last one, so it could be a while before they've interviewed everybody.

I hope so. I was told that today during my interview and took it as a bad sign.

Maybe sometimes it means nothing, but it's never been good when I've heard it.
