BMW iDrive Pro Random GPS Signal Repair

A very common issue on BMW E6x/E9x etc
The GPS signal is lost every now and then, sometimes it works fine for a few days, then it does not work anymore for a while. Completely random.

On the CCC units (From 2003 to 2008 cars), there was a module in charge of processing the GPS signal from the antenna. This module has a high rate of failure.
This module is serviceable and BMW published a service bulletin about this a little while back.

You can get a new module for about 140 euros from the dealer. Changing the module takes about 20mn, all together, included removing the radio itself. Which is fairly easy in fairness.

Here in my case I had a spare CCC unit. So I used the HIP module from it.
Get your hands on a small torx like mine here.

Turn the radio upside down and remove all the screws at the bottom.
Remove the cover gently, it will reveal the HIP module on the side. The HIP module is the one with the blue connector sticking out (GPS antenna connector).

You will see 2 small black round clips outside the chassis, on the side where the HIP module is install. Push those in and now pull gently the HIP module up.

Remove the small flat connector too. Very straight forward.

Now install the new module in the radio.

Close the cover. Screw the screws back in. Put the radio back.
    You are done.

    I hope this helps
