Bearings?

    My rear hub has a bit of play and a slight rattle
    Am I correct in assuming that the bearings are shot?

    Maybe, check for bullet holes.

    Is it a Shimano (hub&cone) hub? If so, a little adjustment at your LBS may help.

    Yep sure gonna drop it in to see if they can be sorted either way
