    Hey lads,

Im wondering, is there any preventative measures i can take to reduce the effect of water marks ?

I polish/wax my car, however as there are days the car is not taken out of the driveway i notice after it has rained there are dirty water marks on the car. Is there anything i can do to stop this happening?

    Thanks in advance.

There's no way to stop it. Get out and dry it after its finished raining! :p

Keep a quick detailer spray and soft mifrofiber cloth in the boot and give the car a quick wipedown when it's annoying you. Can get ones that will boost shine and add some decent protection at the same time!

I also use Demon Shine on the car after wash.

When im washing the individual panels i spray the previous panel with some Demon Shine and when all panels are cleaned Dry down with appropriate towel

    I use this one

    its pretty awesome.

Its the only way to prevent water spots, leaving it to dry by itself with all your other polishing efforts is madness.

You use Demon Shine after you've waxed?

I do dry the car after washing. The water marks im talking about are after it has rained and the car hasnt been driven for a day or 2 afterwards.

    No demon shine after/during wash.

So you have rain spots after sitting idle. I get that also you can dry with a towel before it dries in.

But ultimately i get disaopointed with results and end up giving it a quick wash down and towel dry. Thats been my experience.

Can anyone recomend a quick detailer that i can simply spray onto the water marks to remove them ?

    Good ones I've used....
    Orchard Auto Care 'Perfection'
Chemical Guys 'Blitz' , 'Speed Wipe' , or 'V7' which had slighlty less protection
    Dodo Juice 'Red Mist'

Ive used both Simoniz and Turtle Wax quick detailers. Ive found the Simonez one in halfords to be the easiest to work with.

Again they are a stop gap (for me anyway) ive found your still just rubbing the dirt (dry water marks) around the car. Fine if your not a picky bollix. But I am and i end up washing it again.

Id give the simoniz one a go to see if it suits you as its not expensive. Other people swear by the 'G' range but ive never used any of their stuff.

    Cheers lads.

Are the easily applicable, ie there's no residue is there?

No very easy to work on. I use 2 microfibres.

    Wipe on.. polish off.

Might need more Microfibres depending on how bad the water marks are.

Just remember that there's a difference between marks left on a car after rain and after washing. The marks from rain is due to the fact that the rainwater has dirt in it. Very annoying when it rains then the sun is out and it dries up the water and leaves the dirt. The marks on a car after washing is due to the fact that your water is hard and full of lime.

There really is no way to stop the rain marks but as mentioned, get a quick detailer and wipe down the car afterwards (presuming it was cleaned and isn't covered in road muck). To stop the water marks, dry the car by hand with a microfibre cloth after washing it. Leaving the water there will leave white rings everywhere and these are a nightmare to remove once they've dried.

I've used a lot of QD's over the years but the one I'm using now is the best I've ever used. It's Meguiar's Last Touch Detailer. It's part of the Meguiar's detailer range so it comes in a gallon container and you need to get a spray bottle for it. It smells lovely and leaves an absolutely incredible shine along with the best beading I've ever seen from a QD.

If you want a quick and easy way of removing hard water marks on a car after washing, get a microfibre and wet it with the same tap you used to wash the car. Wipe it over the marks and dry it with another microfibre immediately. Don't let it dry on its own and you should be fine.

These are the very marks im talking about. Leaves a dirty ring once dry!

    It's Meguiar's Last Touch Detailer.

Been using this for the past couple of years ever since a boardsie recommended it to me, great stuff.

This is a normal thing and you can avoid it by parking your car in your garage that is the only way because dirt will mix with air while raining.
