Maths options

    Hi all,

So, in semester one I failed Calculus 1 by 5% (35% attained) while getting 66% in statistics (i.e. 2.5 credits out of 10 for first semester). I have a strong feeling I might have similarly failed Calculus 2 by a similar percentage and I think i'll get close to a first class honour in Linear Algebra.

Now, all of this will give me only 5 out of the 20 credits (essentially failing the subject) on about a 50% overall average. Does this mean that regardless of my other subjects I will have to repeat these 2 modules in autumn and pass at least one of them to continue into second year (Computer Science and Software Engineering through Arts degree).

Also notable is I expect a 2-1 or 1st class average in CS aswell as about a 55-60% average in Law. Will these account for the maths results or is it simply 5/20 credits = no other option than repeat and pass at least one of them in the fall to progress?

Any help from people with previous experience or knowledge would be much appreciated, the marks and standards isnt fully clear on this circumstance,

    brainiac.

As far as I remember 4 years ago Detta said to my class you have to pass at least 1 of the calculus modules and 1 of the stats/linear. As you have to do maths modules in 2nd year as part of the CSSE course you'll have to pass them, other subjects (CS/Law) aren't taken in to account - again as far as I know.

Same maths question comes up every year. Just ask someone from the department, don't trust anything your mates tell you about compensating because it's mostly untrue. One quick email and your question will be answered.
