Aer Lingus Fleet

Are a high number of Aer Lingus planes in Maintenence? this morning my flight to Warsaw was delayed for 3 hours because of a Technical problem so they brought in a Titan Airways 767 to replace an A320. Considering there was only about 150 people on a plane that can carry 265 it seemed very empty and not very cost effective on a longer journey.

I also had the Titan 767 back from Brussels a few weeks back but i put that down to the disruption the wind caused in Dublin, but i have seen their aircraft around Dublin airport a lot recently

Are all of the aircraft at 100% usage or would it not have made more sense to swap the aircraft with one on a shorter route or am i missing something

A technical issue can happen on any route. They bring in the replacement aircraft when they need them and can't plan for what route it will be needed on. They have to plan for the highest number of passengers.

I'm not sure what you mean by your last question. Are you talking about load factor or the % of planes in usage? They will always have aircraft in for maintenance. Not always planned either.

Why would they swap for one on a shorter route? Not sure what you are getting at.

AFAIK two planes went tech last week and now since that pigeon strike on Saturday a third one has gone tech. There was no slack in the system but a week or so ago they rented in an extra A320 for the summer, but that still means that they're 2 aircraft down. At least that's the situation as it was yesterday, might be different today...

Also, an A320 (EI-DVF) left the fleet today on return to its leasing company.

So out of the 40 aircraft they own how many do they lease?

    Hi Keith

Sorry i meant the utilization of the planes, are they already 100% utilized so any Tech breakdowns means they need to hire in a plane.

On the route swap i guess if they are paying Titan per hour would it make more sense to get Titan to do the Manchester route and take the A320 from the Manchester route to fly the Warsaw leg which would result in lower external costs

    Regards

    Paul

Has the white tail been in service yet? These replacements have been going on for a while now, surely out of the ordinary and costly.

all a bit odd when you consider that they lsd two out to operate for Virgin and lost DVF back to the leesor,

The reason for the Titan B737 and B767 subs in Tuesday was because:

EI EPC an A321 was tech in TFS last Tuesday night, returned Wednesday, night, spend the day in AMS tech on Saturday and was grounded in BRU until yesterday evening after going tech Monday afternoon.

EI-EPR an A319 was damaged at LHR yesterday by an airbridge, around 7 flights cancelled mostly VS ones.

EI-DEM an A320 had multiple bird strikes on Saturday afternoon. (not sure if its back in service yet)

EI-DEF has not operated a passenger flight since 15 April and the while aircraft AFAIK hasn't started service yet but has being re-registered as an Irish Aircraft this week.

Just in case people are wondering why Titan are sending a B767 for loads over 130 pax is because the B757 is operating for Monarch at LGW for the summer.

They are still due the final A319, not sure whats happening with it as it was due by now.

I would seriously hope that the last 319 is away getting its seats put in to a normal config, not the J/Y horror its twin is flying with due to being pressed in early...

AFAIK its at LGW for Monarch not sure if its standby or operating alongside MON's own ones. It was a while ago when I read it.

Was on one before to the Canaries, wasn't the worst (i actually quite liked it) but it did show its age and that was 5 years ago. How modern will EI's one be I wonder ?

Its likely they'll have had an entire interior refit.

They're built 1998, but the age of the plane has extremely little impact on how the interior looks.

Heath Tecna have an interior kit for the 757 that looks almost identical to the 737 Sky Interior as far as I know, should they want to go that far.
