UPC box-DVD player-Tv

    Hi folks,
I have a problem connecting up a UPC box and a DVD player, we switched to the new UPC box but its driving me mad,
Basically the UPC box, DVD player and tv all have 1 scart connector, I bought a scart splitter in tesco but if I plug the DVD scart into it it takes out the UPC picture and sound! This is even with the DVD player on standby, the old UPC box had 2 scarts so it wasn't a problem,
Is this normal? And what is the best way around it, I don't see why UPC would drop one scart connector and not put a hdmi into the box!?
I hope this makes sense, I appreciate any help!

Are you saying that your TV only has one SCART and no other input connection? HDMI? Component?

Sorry it has 2 hdmi ports, the DVD player doesn't have any hdmi either does the UPC box

You can pickup a DVD player for next to nothing these days and the modern models all have HDMI, you should be able to get one for roughly 30-40 euros in Dunnes Stores.

If you're determined to keep your existing DVD player, see if it has component video ports, if your TV also has these then you could connect up using those connectors and you'll also need a basic left and right audio cable.

This is what component video output ports look like, it's a set of three phono ports....

Thank you for the replies, i thought this problem would be far more common, im not sure how old the dvd player is but it looks like a newer model may be the way to go!

Pick up a HDMI cable in Tesco or off the cheap rack (no brand names) in PC World. Don't spend stupid money on fancy gold-plated cables which are a complete rip-off, the HDMI signal is digital so no amount of shielding will make any difference to the zeros and ones going down the cable.
