    Hi guys,

Looking to upgrade the ram in my imac. Its a 2.66 core duo 27inch screen.

I currently have 2*2 gb. I'm looking for an 8 gb stick to replace one of the 2gb. What is the best place to pick up an 8gb stick. I had a look on crucial but they only have 4's

    cheers.

RAM performs better when paired. It's so cheap, just get the 2x8GB kit or make do with 2x4GB.

They don't seem to have 8gb sticks. I think ill just go with the 2*4. Double the RAM should be enough...

Are you sure that's the spec ? Didn't think there was a 2.66GHz Core Duo let alone a 27" iMac with one ?

iMacs from the Core Duo generation were the White Plastic with 17" and 20 " screen size.

I assume the OP means one of the i5 iMacs from late 2009.

I see what you mean about Crucial not having any 8GB sticks for that machine. They may just be out of stock. You could wait a while and see if they get them in. But it would probably work out quite a bit more expensive, so if 8GB is enough, stick with that.

Yes I was going to ask about that. When I click on 'about this Mac' it states core duo.

    It's definitely 2.66 and 27inch and I bought it around Nov 09.

The crucial website states its a quad core (that's the only imac with 27 inch and 2.66 processor), I'll assume that is correct?

Certainly an odd one ! As Prof said above it's probably a Quad Core i5 or i7. Which OS is installed ?

Crucial have an application that runs on the computer and reports which memory is suitable and gives a link for it. Have you tried that ?

I'm running 10.6.8. Yes I confirmed the RAM with the app. Strange indeed..
