hi was wondering would anyone know what my entitlements are here.
my boyfriend was working, commission only job, but had to leave cause he was earning WAY less than on the dole. He went back to the dole this morning to sign on again and see if he can get money for the last 2 weeks as we cant pay our rent due to the little money he got in that job (we dont get rent allowance)

Anyway they told him cause he's living with me, someone who gets social welfare, they are cutting his allowance by 64 euro a week. We worked it out and he will be left with exactly 96 euro a month after our rent! 96euro for food and bills....

Is there anything we can do or anywhere we can go about this? surely they cant do do this. We are both actively seeking work and dont enjoy being on the dole!
We are going to out local health office in the morning to see if they can help but apart from that im at a loss of what else to do :(

Maybe the best option would be for him to claim for both of you's, that way you would get over €300 or whatever it is, then sign onto the housing list etc, and try get rent allowance, other than that im not sure what else you could do, nad to answer your other question, yes they can do this unfortunately, so you should both go into them and say you want him to claim for both of you's and that you's are a couple co habiting... Hope this helps.

You didnt mention your ages so if you's are under 25 well then the rates will be alot less.

    Oh yes, they can! Unfortunately...

The State limit for couples is E312.80 per week. If you're both on JSA it'll be means tested. If your income is above that, it'll be cut according to your means. Your best bet is to apply for the Rent Allowance. Details here. Get down to the local authority housing offices and get the ball rolling to be assessed as being in need of social housing. Without that, you won't get RA.

    Hope this helps.

    were both 25.
we applied for rent allowance but are not eligible as we pay over the amount of rent your allowed to claim it and the landlord wouldnt put down a lesser amount so we could get it.

we are having problems with the apartment, more or less since we moved in 8months ago. every problem takes ages to sort out, first the washing machine took 2 months to get fixed by landlord, then problems with the fridge, now for the last 4or5 months we have been trying to sort out mould on the walls and ceilings but the landlord isnt doing anything except willing to paint it, even after the council came out, did up a report and sent it to the landlord.
im going to see were i stand in terms of breaking the lease 4 months early and getting deposit back since they arent sorting the problem.

if we move to a place with lower rent that accepts rent allowance this will help us financially.

    thanks for the replies :)
