Hi I though i-d just add to this thread instead of starting up a new one as my query is pretty similar
MOD-NOTE: It's actually quite a different query, so I've put it in a new thread.

,Living in Dublin at the moment and starting a job in Northern Ireland pretty soon,I dont plan on moving up north at present as the commute is pretty reasonable,is it possible to set up a bank account and get a NI number without living in the uk?

I was able to set up a UK bank account (Ulster Bank) using my parents address in the south but wasn't able to set up a savings account until I had a UK address.

I was able to work without a NI number but I only applied for when I had an address in the north.

There are two types of tax in the north there is your normal tax (20%) and then you pay 12% NI tax (this is how they fund the 'free' health care and so). But if you are living in the south you can claim back this NI tax. But you may have pay tax in the south as well on your tax home.

    Hi,

    taken from citizensinformation.ie :
I am not resident in Ireland but I need a PPS number - how do I get it?

In some cases people who are not resident in Ireland may need a PPS Number. For example, someone who is a beneficiary under an Irish will may need to supply a PPS number before a grant of probate can issue.
The Department of Social Protection's Client Identity Services (CIS) provide a Registration Service for non-resident applicants who cannot attend at a designated PPS Registration Centre and who need a PPS Number for a transaction with a specified body.
If you are living in Northern Ireland or the United Kingdom and are working in the Republic of Ireland (a frontier worker) you apply for a PPS Number in the normal way at a designated PPS Registration Centre.

    hope this helps

I live in the south and work in the north. I got my P60 a few weeks ago and have paid NI contributions. How do you go about reclaiming this?
