I have applied for Actuarial Science, not Computing. But can I ask those of you with letters a quick question?

I've never applied to southern uni's before so not sure how exactly the CAO works.

I completed my A Level's in 2007/2008 and am currently studying Maths and Statistics through the Open University. My interview seemed to go very well and they said that CAO will notify me of an offer (or lack of) in July. But how exactly does this offer work?

With UCAS student's are told in advance what criteria they must meet to be accepted - whether they are studying LC, A Levels, or alternatives like myself. So I can't compare my current studies to the CAO point system and therefore have no idea if I stand a chance at being accepted or not.

Does your letter just say 'You're being offered a place, see you in September' or 'You're being offered a place if you get x, y, or z' ??

Any help would be very much appreciated :-)

You should receive a letter any day now offering you a place. The letter I got was just a short note saying that I had been accepted and they would hopefully see me in September, no conditions attached.

Assuming you qualify as a mature student then you won't be in competition with others via the points system at all.
The head of course that carried out my interview said at the end that he would write a report based on my interview and the strength of my application, give it to the registry and it would be decided then vs the strength of other candidates. So if you're a mature you just have to sweat out the wait and hope for the best.
They seem pretty keen to recruit matures and if you gave a good interview I'd imagine you have a great chance. Best of luck!
