Up my local river some one has cut down a lot of trees on the river bank , right on the waters edge ( I assume for more of a view) and has left them there hanging over and in the water for some time now, can I cut them up if I can get at them with a boat? Also there is a dead tree near me, can I cut that down?( its on waste land near the main road) ash i think and yes I am very safety conscious and concerned about the law.

To be honest, you'll get loads of replies saying to chance it. However, this is an issue that has come up here a number of times. If they are on someone else's land then to take them is stealing. Trees in a river - if the buts are still on someone else's land then they belong to that land owner. If they float down the river you might have a right to take some. As for the wasteland, is it owned by someone? if so, you will need their permission. Not having a go at you, just don't want to see you on the wrong side of the law and having to pay a price for it.

Thanks reilig, i'll just have to have a closer look or the best thing is just ask the land ower! the wasteland is there after the road was widened and probably belong to the county council.
