Out of those I'd get the avensis. None of the choices are exciting and even though its fashionable to slag the avensis, its got its good points.

I'm in the same boat as you Paul so interested to hear what people say. Though for 8-10k I'd imagine you'd get something fresher than a 08 Avensis. Have you looked in the UK?

I'd agree. Don't have much time for petrol VAG's, especially the 1.4/1.6 of that era.

I haven't. All those cars are in Meath/Louth. Biggest problem is I'm stuck for time to go looking due to work/family. '00 Avensis I have needs clutch replaced along with bushings + a service. To add to that list, rear brakes started grinding over the weekend so looks like might be too much of an investment to make given age etc..

It depends on the condition of the car really. If it's in tidy condition it might be worth repairing as you could get a good few more years hassle free driving out of it yet.:)

You will get a Mazda 6 on your budget:

I personally would go for the octavia (diesel), but thats just me, people I know that have them rave about them and even my local mechanic raves about them ( although I am talking about the older models ) but hey the avensis ( older models) were superb too, had one myself and it was bullet proof. Ah why oh why can't they make em like they used too. Buying a used car these days is a mine field especially with all the modern day c**p out there. Best of luck op.

That's all wear and tear stuff.

Myself i'd look at getting it fixed at an indy.

At least you know whats wrong with your car, you could buy one of those and something could go the following week.

Plus you won't be travelling all over the place trying to find a new car to buy.
