So,I've signed up to do a charity cycle around the ring of kerry in july and was wondering if anyone might point me in the general direction of where i might be able to rent a good quality bike from now til after the cycle so as to get some practice as the last bike i would have cycled would have been an Andy Ruffle bmx! cheers in advance...

Good quality bike rental is hard to find and especially for relatively long periods (usually for a max of a week or so).
Buying a second hand one would cost maybe 300 for a reasonable one which would be considerably cheaper than long term renting....

Ok gdavis I was a bit flippant with my reply and just did it for affect to be honest. but I have seen similar threads before about rental and Its not cheap particularly for a road bike which I think you would need. the ring of Kerry is a 180k cycle so if you have not cycled before and are reasonably fit you MIGHT get away with 3 or 4 weeks hard training and get around. So at a minimum that's 4 weeks bike rental. If your unfit you may need as much as 8 to 12 weeks. I have heard of people doing it with feck all training but I imagine they really suffer and it is a trip you want to enjoy. I'm planning on doing it this year, i am now at a level where i can do arond 100k and am still daunted by the upcoming challenge. Also if your willing to take on a trip like the Rok I'm sure you will get the Bug and want to keep at it. Cycling can be addictive and can genuinely have such a positive affect on ones life. I have seen decent bikes on Adverts and on here for 3 to 400. I believe there is even a bike from decathlon a triban in the Uk and NI that is around 300 sterling new. So ffs just buy one ; -)
