    Hey lads,

So car just failed NCT on a damaged rear tyre. I am looking to get a part-worn tyre next week to fix it and get it re-tested asap. Does anybody have any recommendations for place in south dublin?

Please note that I am not looking for a debate regarding the rights and wrongs of part-worns. I simply want one or two names of places that are worth trying.

    Thanks in advance!

For what it's worth - the dimensions of the tyre are:

    225/40 ZR18

They sell part worns in cabinteely tyre centre but I wouldn't recommend them. Got very old tyres there last time.

Isn't the year of manufacturer stamped on the tyres? Why would you not recommend the guy because you failed to check what you were buying? Last time I was there he had a big selection, you can decide to buy or walk but you know what you're buying.

I remember getting a new non branded tyre for about €100... so you could try them as well

Asked him for a pair of good brand tyres with good thread that aren't ancient. Told me to leave car and come back which I did. Gave me two different brand of tyres with different thread patterns both over 5 years old. Have been back to get tyres fitted but wouldn't get part worns there again.

Understand, I thought the normal procedure in a place like that was that you picked out the tyres and they then fitted them. Anyone who leaves the selection to them is asking to be fobbed off with old stock.

Ive used a place in England before. Asked for 2 good part worns and got two Continentals a year old with good thread. Throwing old crap on my car when I asked for a pair of good ones just shows you how they view selling part worns.

That's dear! If you're going to get a non-branded one they're about €40-50. But for that you'll get 2 branded part worns.
