Federal Ammo Paint Colours??

Just curious about this one folks. I use federal centerfire ammo. (.243 WIN).

I previously have used 80 & 100gr soft points. (power shock)
Than changed to 95gr vital shock.

I always notice a stain of ink / paint around the percushion cap. Now previously I thought that it was to denote the grain weight of the bullet but recently I've bought ammo in various places and the vital shock is either red or blue depending on where you buy it.

Now I've further ruled out grain weight because I was in my very well stocked local dealer the other week and I asked him if he knew. He cracked open several boxes of 55 & 95gr and they shared the same colour paint.

    Any ideas?

When i was doing a bit of reloading im sure i read that it's a Waterproof Adhesive to keep moisture out, not all manufactures use it as its another cost.

Just did a bit of a search myself, it's called Primer Sealer and readily available from places like Cabelas for reloading and for long term storage as it keeps Moisture and Oils out of the Cartridge, also a requirement for Militry Spec Ammunition.
