Hi, I'm Damian, and I just come with my wife and two kids(5 and 13) from Argentina.
We landed few days ago and for now we are settled in an appartment let by my employee.
We have plans to move to Newbridge town, and I have few question about the schools in general, I know the school year end in july and we are almost in june so, you think the schools will let my kids end the school year or they will ask to wait to start the next school year in september?
Also my two kids does not speak English really well, so I read that some schools helps the kids in that situation to be integrated. any knows something about that?

I'm also not sure who to pick a school and if that's possible, should I enroll my kids in all schools in case they do not accept the kids?

well, any help will be really appreciated.

    Thanks a lot.
    Best regards.
    Damian.

Ring every school in your area and see if there is space.
The biggest problems with schools here is that the one you want may not have space.
A lot of schools are used to dealing with children with litle or no english especially in the younger classes.

You should try and get your children into school now. The youngest age 5 will be in junior infants in primary school and the oldest age 13 in secondary school. Children who have no English will be given extra help from a language support teacher to improve their English. The younger child will find it easy as he/she will be immersed in the language.

If you have no luck in Newbridge you should know that there's a new Educate Together school in Kildare town - about 6km from Newbridge, they are likely to still have places in Junior infants at this stage. You can fill in an enrolement form here http://www.kildaretownet.ie/enrolment.html

I would agree with trying to get them into school as soon as possible. They won't learn much in the next few weeks but will make friends and so have the opportunity to speak English during the summer. I younger one should have no difficulty and by September may not need much help but 13 is a bad age to have a move a child for all sorts of reasons, not just language. Is there any chance you could get them some English classes (or what may be called 'grinds') over the summer?
Your employers or workmates are probably the best people to ask about local schools or classes.

    Hi, thanks for all responses.

so far I was not able to find any house to live in Newbridge, so, I just starting to find a different town to live, but my big concern is about schools.

To be honest my old child is not so bad speaking English, we are talking every time we can in English just for learning purposes, and I realize that he is not that bad :), and is learning really fast, (seeing movies, listen music, etc). He also have his English books from the old school.

certainly, a summer English lessons will be really great, he needs to learn how to deal with all day English speakers.

    Thanks a lot.
    Damian
