    Hi guys,

I’m finishing up my year in the U.A.E., how do I prove I have taught as qualified one year abroad, do I send my U.A.E. contract to VEC payroll or Teaching Council?
Or do I need to bring some kind of form signed from my school in the U.AE?

Also do I need to bring some police clearance in the UAE home to Ireland?

Thanks for your help in advance ☺

Yes you'll need to obtain police clearance cert before you leave to give to prospective employers in Ireland as the Irish Garda vetting unit only check out Irish/Northern Ireland addresses. You'll also need to recomplete your Irish vetting too to update.

OMG... I never knew about this!! :O I too will be finishing up in June the UAE as a qualified teacher. Please explain to me how to do this. . can you claim the increment the exact same as if you taught at home for a year? And yes is the just garda clearance from here you need, and/or a document that proved I worked in the school for a year. Thank you, would really appreciate it!! :)

I'm confused about this. . how would you go about doing this??! Why do you need police clearance for this, and how so do you get it here?! Thank you :)

Police clearance/vetting from whatever country you are living in abroad.
Garda vetting form available from the Irish teaching council.

Also you will need a statutory declaration signed by yourself and a peace commissioner or solicitor. See below for full details:)

If you only qualified recently, I doubt you'll get any increment.

A friend of mine is having a horrid time even being out on the qualified rate of pay, never mins getting back pay &/or increments from time spent working in the UK.

    Don't hold your breath.

I've claimed increments from working overseas. It was a few years back (7/8 yrs). I don't know if they've got any tougher on it since then.
However, in my case one of the most important things that I had was the specific dates that I started and finished in the overseas school and of course this had to be on official headed paper from the schools where I was employed. Make sure you get that before you leave. Some schools give it to you as standard procedure anyway, others don't and I would imagine that it might be a bit tricky to get from them once you leave the country you are in.
    Hope this helps.

I'm confused as to why you need police vetting from the country you're in though. . is the form from the school not enough that's stamped, signed and verified enough surely..???! Why do you need to get vetted again?!

I don't make the rules . It's to ensure that you haven't been convicted of any crimes abroad. Every year since you were 18 must be accounted for.

Thanks..makes sense now! :) Just seems silly here because even if you made a minor offence here in the UAE, you'd be deported out of the country...! I know a teacher who was deported back to south Africa because he'd one drink and was caught drink driving because of it in October... there's no offence too small here!!

It's a bit of a nuisance all right but sure you can't be too careful when it comes to children. I see on here that public sector workers are also having to be vetted at interview stage , it's probably getting to the stage where everyone will be vetted.
