Have you gone into a shock place and priced them? It is recommended to get them changed in pairs, the general manufacture recommendation is to change both if there is under 10k on the pair since last fitted, otherwise you will get an imbalance.

I thought that was a general rule irrespective of mileage on them. If shocks are only lasting less than 10k and you aren't roughing them you really need to change to a different manufacturer.

Sorry should have explained, the car is 05, currently has the originals but failed due to imbalance, I know it's the norm to replace both & will do, just wondering whether those on the link were ok quality wise and if anyone had used the company before

KYB and Monroe would be ok shocks. What is the car?

    I've used Monroe's without issues.

Thanks, the link shows what they have for 05 megane

    Ah ok. Didn't spot that.

Yep, Monroe or KYB are fine. I've used Mister Auto before with no problems. Bear in mind you'll need two shocks - one for each side so double the price!

    Is that a good price?

Yep, and add €7 for delivery.

I've rang around three local motor factors and they are all €40 / €60 more expensive for two shocks so going to go with mr auto, €101 delivered compared with €140 minimum locally

There was no ref as regards which side they fit, just said front axel so I assume I just order two & they will fit either side, is that correct?

I've seen another brand which says front axel left so was just wondering

Except when the shock is damaged in an accident. Had a meeting with Monroe years ago, there reasoning was the imbalance would be too much and would cause tyre wear etc. The only reasons you would need to change a shock anything under 10k would be accident damage (crash, potholes etc).

Ah thats fair enough. I was just assuming that on the basis of the OP's post and how he failed the NCT that the problem was most likely general wear and tear on the shock
