DSLR Waterproof/Protective case?

Are there any relatively cheap options to waterproof/protect dslrs?

A bit of online research has come up with a few options but it's difficult to get a bearing on them. Would anything under €50 provide much protection whatsoever? It'll be for a Nikon d5100 or similar

Ideally, a case similar to that for the GoPro would be perfect, but that kind of thing looks very expensive to buy for a dslr. I'd like to be able to use the camera in the rain for travelling and (if the cases are strong/reliable enough) possibly to record snowboarding footage.

    Thanks in advance

Hard cases are expensive. There are good quality soft cases from the likes of ewa-marine.

Even with a hard case would you be thing king of carrying it snowboarding? If so a go pro is a wat=y better option. For static shooing you dont need a case.

Thanks, well I already have a DSLR and will be upgrading soon regardless, so I'm just trying to see how plausible it is to use the same camera for all purposes. I plan to do some travelling around Asia and from what I hear rain can be a bit of a factor so that's the main reason I'm looking into it.

Had a look through the ewa-marine site, couldn't find a price guide anywhere?

Using it for recording snowboarding would only be a bonus - and that would be with as much care as is can reasonably be expected on a snowboard. That is to say I won't be trying any tricks with it, more to follow and record others.

for what you want a hard case is probably not the most ideal solution, one of those baggies things should do, a proper hard case (housing) will cost more than your camera.

if you are planning on changing cameras - have a look for a secondhand housing and camera.

Ps. hard cases (housings) are generally expensive and heavy.

You can get rain covers that aren't waterproof but are rain proof very cheaply. Pick up a 2nd hand GoPro, there brilliant to have traveling like that for all the situations where a DSLR is too awkward.

I brought a DSLR and a GoPro to Thailand last year and was very glad to have both.

You need to look up the retailers section of their site.

The hard cases are designed to be waterproof more then shock proof id imagine you would break it pretty easily not to mention the bulk they add would make your snowboarding experience pretty poor lugging it around.

As I said above pickup a 2nd hand Hero2 to bring to Asia and have for snowboarding if you can.
