    Hi fellas,

I just bought some new shimano spd sl pedals for my new Scott bike. What I forgot to buy we're the cleats.:P
So now when I search online I am offered the different colours with different ranges of float. I didn't realise that pedals/cleats/shoes/play etc were so complicated! So I now understand a little more about "play" and float. What I would like to know is I have been using look keo easy pedals and cleats( which i have been using for about 6 months) which colour would be the most similar in the shimano?

The pedals should come with cleats. I have no idea which would be similar to the Keo.

All depends on what colour Keo cleats you had, I'm afraid!

Yellow cleats give your foot a small bit of riggle room when clicked in,where the red ones do not,if your old ones do let you riggle your foot then go with the yellow cleats.

Ignore all those silly replies above.

You get the colour that best matches your shoes, socks or kit in that order. That's what's important when you're relaxing with a coffee and your feet up.

Yes I just checked the order and the yellows are included. Sorry guys! Rookie mistake.
I did have the look keo easy pedals(grey) I'm pretty sure they were the most basic ones.
I guess I will try out the yellows and if they feel too wigglely I shall get the reds.

Thanks for your (witty) replies :P

they feel wiggly when both pedals and cleats are brand new but after a while they dont move much at all, especially with the spring tension set to max. I use the yellow cleats and shimano 105 pedals, theres no movement unless I force my foot to change position

Well they should be movement in the yellow ones that is why the nose of the cleat is not as big as the red ones, your spring tension on pedal is prob at its max and that is why you have no movement.

The diff between the red and yellow is only a couple degrees in movement anyway.

    I mentioned that!

when the hard plastic material becomes disfigured there is less movement. I set my spring tension to max for track cycling.

No matter how old the red ones are (unless they are worn down and at that stage you prob need to replace them ) you will not be able to wiggle while clipped in,this is due to the nose been bigger than yellow cleats.

Maybe you should use red cleats and not have the tension maxed out on pedal, this would prevent serious damage to ligaments in knee when forcefully clicking out of pedals.I have seen lads do damage to theirs while coming out of pedals.

Cyclists should always have movement with yellows ones,if you do not want movement use the red ones.I use them and they are no need to have tension maxed on pedals.

I know how the cleats work, I use max tension at the velodrome for safety reasons.

I dont see how clipping out will give me knee damage either. more than likely someone has poor knees already if theyre getting injured clipping out

The same way some one playing soccer or hurling etc when their foot is firmly placed on ground and they try turn,if there is no give you will twist knee and more than lightly damage ligaments, its the same movement when clicking out of cleats when the maxed, you are putting more pressure on that area when clicking out.
